EA and Mythic have announced that they're unleashing a mobile reboot of the cult-classic '90s strategy title Dungeon Keeper for iOS and Android devices this winter.

The title is... fantastic.

The screenshots hurt, just because I can just *taste* the microtransactions associated with them. Ouch. My childhood...

Only one glimmer of hope remains - Mythic aren't all that bad, and are still reeling from a recent failure. They'll likely put their best into it, because knowing EA... their careers are literally on the line.

While EA are widely known as scum, and have ruined many titles with their policies, i see nothing wrong with DK for mobile devices.

It's not like they're making a first person shooter out of it, like what was done to xcom.
It's not like they're making part 3.
It's just a mobile game, nobody cares.

They bought out Bullfrog around 300 years ago, if a mobile game is the worst they have to threaten us with, feel safe.

As for the game itself... i fear it's going to be a dungeon themed farmville clone.
It's a pretty terrible prospect for a game of such renown.

Its not gritty or dark... The rooms look like they have set sizes...

My post back there was a joke, this DK game didn't actually make my DK2 disappear and erase my memories of it.  I don't really understand why people are getting mad over something that affects them in no way.

There wasn't going to be a good official Dungeon Keeper game.  That's been true for a long time.  They're beating a corpse, but it's not like the corpse can feel it.  You still have DK1 and DK2, and any unofficial clones that turn out to be good.

EA literally makes the worst mobile games. Literally. As in it's all overpriced, it downloads a huge 200mb file or so, downloads after purchase, and once downloaded, it doesn't work. Oh, that's ok, we can refund games on Android after 5 mins of purchase or so. Oh wait! The download took so long that I can't get a refund. Now all I can do is flag it and rate it 1 star like half of all the other buyers did!

EA made a great social game early last year: Simcity Social. It was actually fun, almost more so than Simcity. Then they decided they ran out of events to keep it fresh. So they launched a ufo attack event which required people to fork over cash for a bunch of online trinkets. Which is fine because everyone loves bragging rights in mmos. They let you buy diamond vaults too, which are things that generate diamonds (rl cash currency) daily, meaning that you'd get your rl money back worth of diamonds for free in over a year.

What sucked was when EA suddenly pulled the plug on the game as soon as it squeezed the most out of its customers. I'm surprised they legally got away with it. Even when their games are good, they thoroughly fuck people over.

Honestly, it doesn't look too bad (for a mobile game) from what the screenshots look like so far, and from that alone looks like a rather fun game. That said, it *is* EA, so I am sure they will throw crappy microtransactions and stuff like that and screw it up completely.

Just to be a devil's advocate, EA's Sims Mobile is actually pretty good. The characters have literally no AI, but the game is great. Very heavy on memory... but still.
According to my friend who played it, Mass Effect: Infiltrator was lots of fun as well.

Nah dungeon keeper is dead, let it be dead and rest in peace, or if you are to resurect it, dont make the game a fragging travestite begging money to build X
