"Perhaps a practical demonstration will work better, Tasrak, could you please drop the blade and move a fair distance away?"

[Vgray]

Tasrak drops the blade and moves away.

"All right. What now?"

[Empiricist]

"We'll feed it."
Florencio uses another thruster spell, propelling an empty soul towards the blade.

[Vgray]

The sword greedily absorbs the soul the tip glowing.

"I hear it. The dark whispers. It is pleased."

[Xantalos]

Oh, the sword has a voice but no mouth?

A ripple echoes through the metal of the sword, giving it something resembling a face and vocal qualities.

Speak, blade. What are you?

[Empiricist]

"Well, Mister Trickster, is that enough data for you?"
Several minutes later, reality begins distorting near the sword, space stretching and time accelerating in a small explosion around it. Causality rends itself to pieces as the empty soul is returned to whatever eldritch realm it originated from, as if it were never summoned. Reality crystallizes in its wake before suddenly reverting with a noticeable shockwave leaving the sword resting unharmed in a small crater, with a fading crystalline outline wrapped around it.
"That's the problem with souls from my world. They always return. Though, for one to be bound here for that long is unheard of"

[Vgray]

The sword flexs its new mouth.

"I exist to consume. To absorb, to taste, to devour, to kill. My hunger is endless."

The sword screeches as the soul is released, clearly not happy.

[Empiricist]

"Don't be too disappointed. Our souls are normally empty as was that one."

[Vgray]

The sword...broods.

"Great. Now I'm not the only one that can hear it."

[Xantalos]

Hmm. Irritating AND a detriment without an ironic benefit. Needs fixing.

My pronouncement is thus: the blade shall continue to entrap the souls of those it kills. However, a soul from within the blade will subsume the body of the wielder upon picking it up. The soul will be chosen at random from the repository of souls within the blade. So it shall be.

And thus it is.
Trickster's a pest like that.

[Empiricist]

"So... rather than getting lodged in the blade that killed them, they get stuck in the person holding the blade?"

[Vgray]

Tasrak frowns.

"What happens to me? I become a ghost like mister tusks over there?"

The orc laughs.
