"No that was just the results of my research in my original world, researching more volatile magic is much easier if your body s expendable and attuned for that purpose. I was relatively lucky, I died once, suicide so I could rig my next body to be more efficient. My allies, weren't so lucky. Death was rarely permanent for us, but, the deaths were rather unpleasant. My friend Sanya accidentally transmuted her head into a silver sword for starters, Milo and the Second Corsair were dragged into the domain of the Other. Faust had his entire body ripped apart and replaced. His mark was like mine, except with seven eyes open."

Daeron merely nods.
"So. A fair bit more gory."
He takes a swig from a flask.

[Vgray]

Nelkathar lands and rests where the Volcano once was.

[Empiricist]

Florencio glances at the plains via firearm. "Not quite the denouement I expected."
"The main problem was, those words we used, they were powerful, but we didn't know what they did. For all we knew, the next word we used may have targeted a spell at ourselves. Nevertheless, we quickly made progress. Those weapons... they were far more advanced than the ones we saw, this armor on my arms was another such progress. We discovered things of incredible power, for instance..."
Silica draws a colossal magic circle on the ground.
"I have no where near enough power to use this, but, it generates an entire elemental plane."

Daeron twirls the knife he sharpened.
"So, powerful wizards who died near constantly and paid immense prices for their power?

I can't say I envy you. No offense, lass."

[Vgray]

Tasrak and Twillier are also looking at the plains.

"What do you mean by that?"

[Empiricist]

"Well, if that's where those magma creatures were, the ones trying to prosecute us all... and it's now gone... then I suspect they went with it or we can see their houses now. I don't see any houses."
"None taken. Of course, the other glaring issue was, magic allows people to become more powerful, IF, they absorb souls. I have a feeling that, such overuse of magic may have been because individuals harvested souls and became able to use far more magic than normally possible... Anyway, later on, it wasn't as bad, since we managed to figure out relatively safe ways to test words. I was probably safer still, I mean, people formed alliances and those alliances traded knowledge of words and runes for knowledge and power, but it looked more like an economic bubble for me since we found the meanings of most words, so I focused on the content with higher limits, namely, combinations of known words which was much safer. I suppose I became the unofficial weapons developer for our group, Aether. So much for being a pacifist I suppose... Of course, it really doesn't matter anymore I lost my grimoire."
Silica gestures at the locked book she held.
"I woke up here with this one, it has the definitions of every word, rune and circle. All that trial and error, overshadowed by chance.

But that's life I suppose."

[Vgray]

"I think I see a strange rock formation. That's it."

[IamanElfCollaborator]

"...if you need it unlocked, I might have a go."

[Empiricist]

"Yeah, I don't think we'll have to deal with them any time soon."
"No, that's the lock I conjured, just to keep closed so that people don't accidentally read it and get marked like myself."

Daeron nods.
"Curse marks.."
He looks forlornly at a shadowy, solid, yet seeming gaseous, brace on his left wrist. A chain attached to one of the knives he carried.

[Vgray]

Nelkathar stands up and looks around.

Tasrak and Twillier flinch.

"Not a rock formation..."

[Empiricist]

"Not so much as a curse, as much as it is of limitations. The word is the name of the Other. Saying it calls upon it to deliver salvation, but it opens eyes... when it hits eight, the person and possibly nearby people get dragged to its realm."
Silica examines the brace.
"...the fuck is that?"

[Vgray]

"It looks like a dragon. I've never seen one that big before though."

Nelkathar stretches his wings before he notices Gnomes and Florencio and walks over to them. He bows his head.

"Greetings."

[Empiricist]

"Um... Hello?"
Florencio is rather startled, he had heard of dragons, but the dragons of his world were quite different.
