28th of Obsidian, 127: Final Entry as OverseerWell, we all knew it would happen sooner or later. I had wished it would've happened at a better and happier time. We're still under siege and our army is nowhere near strong enough to take on an army of the dead and their two necromancer leaders. There is an estimated 32 undead following them. In the meantime, as they wait for us to open the gates, they set up camp, waiting for us to come out.
We're at a standstill again, just biding our time. I'm leaving this journal for the next overseer so they can figure the job out more easily. All my time will be dedicated to my training, and since I'm now officially a novice swordsdwarf, I can officially say I can kind of fight now. I just really hope we don't have anything bust down our doors. I also hope we don't have any trouble with wood stockpiles, especially since we don't have any access to the outside right now. Jamcat's baby died also today, making our population to 38 instead of 39. Yeah, we're small in numbers, but hopefully, one day, we can change that. I have a dream of seeing this place as busy and wealthy as the mountainhomes. I would stand guard as Szat leads us to glorious charges for victory and death. Today is not that day, neither does tomorrow look like that, but someday, it will happen. Fenrir keeps digging, but still no luck with the magma. Everyone else is either idle or hard at work with something.
To you, noble reader and Overseer, and my successor, this is what needs to be done during the year 128:
- Finish the pump system. The well is crucial to our survival
- Train us military dwarves
- Break the siege somehow
- Execute the necromancers before you break the siege to show an example to the two necromancer captains that lie outside our doors
- Make lots of wooden cages, we have a decent amount hanging about outside
- DO NOT EVER REMOVE THE STOCKPILE WITH ALL OF OUR CORPSES AND REFUSE! Its indoors for a reason
- Complete the drawbridge by placing an actual bridge in front of our gate to protect any merchants that arrive. Only open it when they say they're getting ready to leave
- Build some watchtowers for our crossbow dwarves that we don't have yet
- USe the leather I ordered for clothes, waterskins and backpacks. My clothes are destroyed as is, and I rather not run into battle stark naked
- Speaking of which, try to get us some basic armor. We got some metal bars from the trade caravan, but not enough to arm us to the teeth. I recommend sending out a squad of 10, fully armored, out to fight if possible. The zombies aren't terribly good if the soldiers stay close to the gates.
- Kill the necromancers first
- Above all else, get us a working source of water.
- Reccomendation: Keep my squad of two out of combat for the next few battles. We're not strong, and we're not the best, but give us time to train, and we'll be the best damn soldiers you got.
I write this off now, and I sign in my own blood to prove that this is all my writing. Our fortunes rise and fall together, o reader.
