Meeting with Gregory

"Of course, when the time comes I will be more then glad to renegotiate the terms of this deal with you."

----

Meeting with Tsujochi

Samus turned and strode back to his throne speaking over his shoulder as he went,

"You might feel fine running Windborn but the Heltanian people love the lands they live upon, and even if all the armies in the world turned their eyes on the Empire I would not give a single inch of land without making them pay thrice its price in blood. Let the tide come while you hide, the Heltanian Empire exists by divine will and we shall break any who oppose us."

Tsujochi smiles and walks out the door.

" Maybe we have something in common after all, but my lands were destroyed while I was away and they can never be reclaimed, the enemy bled for it but my family fell. I'll make a final choice in a few days once the rest of my people return from the missions I sent them on. "

Farah
(That was one lucky stroke...)

[2+1] At full speed you try to cut off the Holk from the two Cogs and suceed...until the Holk rams you. Before that however you give off volleys to both sides [2,3,1,6] which completely miss the cogs but one hits the Powder Magazine of the Hulk and it goes up roaring in flames. Panicked the crew is trying to extinguish the flames and rescue the wounded, until a jarring impact halts all rescue tries [6 vs. 3] your ships takes the impact with grace as do yourself and the Crew. The panicked surviving Crewmembers surrender or continue their extinguishing and rescuing efforts.

Both Cogs meanwhile have turned around [5] but the wind is working against them, you will have enough time to grab whatever is worth something.

Trinicria

A Company of Raglans Men marches westwards scouting the lands of the Greenfoot Tribes. But before they even get close they have to march through lands which the Dwarves consider theirs.[1 vs. 5] The Company doesnt even make it one mile into the Dwarven Borderlands before being ambushed by a whole groups of Border Rangers. [4] To your endless luck the Men are escorted back personally by the Ranger Captain and a rough two hundred Dwarven Rangers.

[3+1] Your Emissary however is much more successfull. The Merchant Princes of Kol'Fes (incidentally the owners of HB&C) agree to your offer if they have full right to trade within your country and are protected from tries to buy them out.

The knight nodded after a few moments of hesitation.

"We have a deal, then. The parcels which you may use are to the west, along the borderlands, where the horse tribes are the most troublesome. I will have a cartographer mark them out for you shortly. I'd advise you go and investigate the state of your lands as soon as possible, to start settling in quickly. Have a good day."

With that, he returned to the city and signaled to the cavalry to stand down.

Three border parcels are granted temporarily to the Windborn - although they get no tax revenues from them, they may use them as they will. The upkeep for the first regiment of the Windborn tribe is now paid for by Kol'Thelos. 40% of all loot (including but not limited to: Money, Horses, Weapons, Armor, Slaves, basically everything) gathered by Windborn tribesmen after a battle now goes to Kol'Thelos, or a percentage equal to that of the Thelossi troops present if they represented more than 40% of the allied forces during the battle.

1 day later.

In the meeting hall in Talrius.
Tsujochi enters the hall again escorted by guards and bows birefly before the king.

" We have made our choice, before we leave would you come outside with me? All will be made clear then. "

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
2 days later.

Outside Kol'Thelos
Tsujochi and 2 companies of men arrive before the city along with a dozen women, Tsujochi calls over the nearest sentry and sends him to his lord with a message.
"I humbly request you meet with me outside the city, I have a gift to deliver in honor of our alliance that I think you will appreciate, I would also request you bring any important military officers with you to witness.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Grazing

2 companies are to patrol the road while the last moves the herds and families from place to place grazing and leaves a few scouts along the border with the horse tribes to monitor for enemy movement.

Hearing of the approach of the Windborn and the deal the Duke struck with them, the Varanasi twins sent a message to the Duke politely requesting a meeting with him.

The Duke's office, with Agnad

Alecto smiled coolly, looking at the merchant with evaluating eyes. After a moment, he seemed to be satisfied with what he saw, and he replied with a neutral, if polite, tone.

"I am looking to settle in a partnership with you, M. Nallbrine. I would like to have a merchant company founded in my city... Something similar to the Hollins, Braggs and Croaker company, but with interests a little more aligned with mine."

He returned to the end of the table, where he started moving around the documents laying in front of his seat - looking for one in particular, it seemed. His speech remained unperturbed all the while.

"The idea in itself is relatively simple. I find a merchant who is not affiliated with any of the big companies, and I give him the capital to start up his own - by financing his first two trade posts, free of charge, and thus allowing him to become quite rich. In exchange, I have the merchant sign something, which binds him to make all of his trade flow through Kol'Thelos - and I do mean all of it - and to respect any embargo enforced by Kol'Thelos. Essentially, your company would remain independent and capable of dealing with whoever it wishes; however, you would not be able to sell it to another merchant without my written acceptance, and you would only be able to set up trade between Kol'Thelos and other cities.

Because of this, the deal would be to our shared advantage. You get the necessary capital to found a merchant company ten times the size of the one you currently own, and I get the assurance that you will be there to stimulate my city's economy. I may even give you grants every so often if you can manage to organize trade between Kol'Thelos and another state manufacturing a product I currently require."

His smile grew slightly wider, and slightly warmer.

"So what do you say, M. Nallbrine? Do we have a deal?"

------------------------------
At the meeting with Tsujochi

The city gates opened once again, and a company of men got out. At their head was the Duke, who like the knight he had sent at the previous meeting was the only man present in a steel armor, although he wore no helmet. He had roughly half as much men as the man in front of him; a traditional Thelossi sign of trust, signifying that the one coming to the meeting did not feel the need to match the other's bodyguards with his own. Arriving before the tribe leader, he inclined his head in a sign of respect, and smiled.

"I salute you, Windborn leader. My name is Alecto Vanheim, Duke of Kol'Thelos. You called to honor our alliance, and I have answered."

Once the traditional words were said, he spoke no more, waiting for the tribe leader to explain why he had convened the meeting.

-------------------------
The Duke's office, with the Varanasi twins

A knight showed the twins inside after a few minutes' wait. He lead them to the Duke's office - which was also the war room - where the city's lord was waiting at the end of a long table. A smile colored the man's face, while his eyes indicated a certain curiosity.

"Sir Tankred, Lady Alessandar. What a pleasure to welcome you in my office. If I may ask, what made you desire to honor by palace so by visiting it?"

It was a polite way of asking why they had wanted an audience. It was extremely rare for the Duke to be impolite.

"And, while we still deal in pleasantries, will you have some wine?"

With Agnad...

Alecto frowned slightly at the merchant's reply, then his smile returned as he found the paper he was looking for - a contract.

"In theory, your relatives are not involved in any part of the deal. However, there are a plethora of small things I had to add in order to avoid a man familiar with the way of the law dodging his part of the deal. Essentially, while your relatives are not touched by the deal, if any profits coming from their merchant ventures go to you, or to a company which you own at least in part, it would be considered that you were making trade without making it circulate through Kol'Thelos, thus breaking the contract.

You have an extreme amount of freedom in what you do, but at the end of the day, all of the money you get from trade - whether it comes from this company or any other - must have circulated through Kol'Thelos at some point, even if it continues along to somewhere else and the city is merely applying a toll. This is to ensure my investment will not be spent for nothing - I hope you will understand. Apart from that, you have nearly all the freedom in the world - you can trade with anyone who isn't under a strict embargo from us, so long as the trade passes through here. The company will not be state owned, and all profits will go to you - the usual tax rates will pay for my own investment in time, so there's no  need for me to get involved in that. You will also be free to refuse from lending me any service - for example, I could not force you to let me borrow company ships because I wanted to transport troops during a war."

The Duke hesitated, before taking the paper he'd just found and a pen.

"Shall I show you the contract?"

With Agnad...

Alecto passed the contract and the pen to Agnad. It was a page long, and written in a vaguely official manner - being a feudal state, Kol'Thelos did not have exactly the greatest amount of professional lawyers or judges. A good part of the contract could be summarized by the fact that the state granted the merchant capital without buying any part of the company's ownership and that any diplomatic mess made by the company was its responsibility alone - although there was a clause indicating that the state may desire to step in to protect its investment if the company or company property was damaged or taken by foreign interests. There was one paragraph which was relatively important:

Spoiler: Contract (click to show/hide)

Essentially, should the contract be signed, the Duke would gain the power to take the company and give it to another merchant if  any of the important clauses in the contract were broken. At the end of the paper, however, it is made clear that if the contract is signed, the new owner of the company would see its first two trade posts be founded by the Duke free of charge and receive Thelossi diplomatic backing for any other trade post he wished to found.

There's a thing at the end that stipulates that the owner can decide to leave the company by himself and be freed of the contract, although the company's ownership, along with all of its assets, would pass on to someone else and all profits made from the company would be expected to be returned.
