I guess the best thing for Leo to do is back off, give Candy that dance he's holding on to, and be ready to teleport people back to be healed by Grifen or somebody.

Grif'll do just as good as Leo with those concoctions. Once we relieve Raphael of his stash, I think we're pretty much good to go.

I humbly suggest that Candy promote because:

*More MAG, and he's about to cap it
*He performs for less units, so any non-dance action with Candy results in less undanced units per turn

Canonically, however, Alec should promote because Candy must seek the FOUNTAIN OF PURITY.

Mag cap notwithstanding, I don't think either of our performers need to promote right away. Unlike other classes, your promotions will provide a marginal improvement to the party dynamic overall, so it'd probably be better to grab a few levels first.

In that case, we'd still have access to the best Memory Magic by end game, and at relatively little loss considering how bad an idea it is for performers to do anything but buff/debuff/heal.

Weren't you the one cautioning others to avoid promoting right away as you surmised this was the halfway point?

NO ONE PROMOTE YET. Not even Efa. Let us not forget this is quite clearly the disc one boss, or at least the midboss. It's quite possible we can cap out both our first and second classes if we get enough promotion items in the next ~5-10 levels.

I feel that Memory Magic is a special case, much like you feel Efa to be. This is probably the halfway point, but it sure would suck to be wrong and be like Riven, stuck with skellies and gargoyles against Prixima. Missing out on stats is pretty bad, but not as bad as missing out on spells.
