I say play it out in character. If your character doesn't agree, say so.

The debate for king shall go forth! At a moment where such talk won't get swords on our throats, that is.

True. We can figure this out FEF1 style: after we've begrudgingly mass-murdered those who stand in the way of an evil dictator.

...I was more suggesting when we aren't surrounded by soldiers actually.

If we try to break away now, we'd have to fight through an entire garrison from the heart of a keep. Granted, we're in an easily defensible spot, but only an idiot would let people in to see the duke with weapons.

When we're on the move to another location would be key, there we'll be under less watch and can pick our own way to escape.

Remember the cardinal rule for traps, ambushes, or overall bad situations: The living get out, the dead dig in.

Speaking of Final Fantasy (two pages ago). I haven't played any of them, but I recently got 4, 5 and 6 all lined up. Any suggestions on what order to play them in? >.>

On topic: Poll. Second option'd since I'd say I expect a cohesive story, though I certainly wouldn't mind going into a sort of open-endedness so long as it's kept moving. Strongly considered adapting the first option to some ideas I had for a FEF much further down the line.

My recommendation is play them in order. 4, 5, 6. Just keep in mind that 4's battle system is significantly different from the other two in that in FF4 you have certain characters at certain points, and in the other two you can change job classes or characters when you want. Also, FF5 is the silliest of the three, and FF6 is the darkest. For me, FF4 gets it just right.

and i ship rydia x edge <3

Don't play 5 first. 4 and 6 give you the fundamental elements of the series without most of the grindy, addictive, managerial stuff. If you like 4 or 6 for what they are then you will likely enjoy 5, but if you like 5 for what it is then all bets are off for enjoyment of the others.

So my recommendation is play them in order. 4, 5, 6. Just keep in mind that 4's battle system is significantly different from the other two in that in FF4 you have certain characters at certain points, and in the other two you can change job classes or characters when you want.

Although I did forget about the Esper thing, so SC does have a point. 4 is probably best to play first.

EDIT: SC are you crazy rydia x cecil is where it's at

Yeah. It's the least complicated in that each character has a set job and you only have them at certain points in the game. 5 has job classes that you can cycle your characters between at will. 6 goes back to one job per character, but you can switch characters once you recruit them and you can change how they level up via Esper so there's a lot of minmaxing and stuff involved... >.>

bullshit edge is the only cool ninja that ever existed and i can't be having that interfere with mah cecil x rosa

Oh yeah, also, I think the poll is stupid. Most good RPGs are in between the two extremes. But it takes really good writing and good GMing to have a coherent plot and gameplay and ending while also allowing freedom, so most GMs don't do it.

Agreed. I would prefer a set end and pre-planned chapters... but maybe instead you could, I dunno, come up with a few ideas like 'so do you want to do x, y, or z for this chapter' and then when we vote on it you go ahead and plan that chapter and we do that questline and then move on.

From what I can guess of the direction Haspen is going in I think that system would work better for if he ever accepts our demands to make a campaign  where we're traveling entertainers:P

Never got to try the series, is all. I've played Tactics Advance and a little of Crystal Chronicles. Oh, and the intro sequence for FF6. That's it :P

Ah, I see. I've played FF1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, 12, 13, 13-2, Mystic Quest, Final Fantasy Tactics, a little of Tactics Advance 1 & 2 and FF2 & 3... although 4 is the only one in that list that I think was better than Chrono Trigger. >.>

Crystal Chronicles was the best FF game hands down. RPGs and plot and stuff are nice, but take away the unnecessary parts of a game and gimme that fast-paced, beautifully-detailed, action gameplay any day of the week.

That game was an inspiration, artistically and in other ways.

Hm. That was the one on the Gamecube, right? I think I did play that, but it was just me playing a 4P game so I don't have clear memories of it. :C
