Well... Actually, if I read it right, yes to weapon, no to armored. Reason why is this: classes bring with them their old skills to their promoted classes. The promoted classes don't actually have the skill, its rather brought by the first class. Soldier isn't armored so it doesn't bring that skill with it because it never had it.

Weapons like one armed, however, beat specific notice that it is available to badits and their promotions, while it may be spirit that you only can use that weapon if you were a bandit, by how it's written a pirate-zerker can because they now qualify as a bandit's promotion.

However, I doubt this was how that meant to work.

The way Reignleif works, I think it was meant to work like that, though.

@Taricus; It says 'unique to Soldiers and Sentinels', not 'unique to Soldiers and their promotions'.

That is true, it is a specific notice and there were class weapons before it that had the typical format. Generals can't use Reignleif it seems. Maybe it is the spirit of the rule, or they don't let soldier-generals use a special weapon.

In other news: random tidbit of the day, the strongest melee weapon is an S ranked sword, the Zwei. The only classes that can use it however (without discipline) are sword masters, theif assassins, and omniweapon users. Its also the heaviest melee weapon.

Yeah, I was just about to say that. We could use a solid tank, because so far we're pretty squishy all in all. Birdy's character is tanky, but just relying on the one is a folly.

Leo is tanky, yeah, but having him plug holes on the front lines seems bad for a healer. We need him mobile.
If Sakura had better rolls, she would be a tank(60% def and only 1 def got).

@Tar: But Berserker is a bandit promotion. It says that it's available to Bandits and their promotions. The way that's worded seems to me that if you're in one of the promotions for the class weapon, you should be able to use it.

Except the problem lies with the fact that berserker is also a pirate promotion. I'd assume the first class taken influences what class unique weapon one can wield, as I do assume the intention is that someone can only use one.

Huh, seems a soldier can actually be a general and get their nice shield skill. Dang, guess a great knight or hold the line actually is the only reasons to be a knight.

You wouldn't even be armored to boot. Soldier General is best general I guess.
Alex begs to differ.
In all seriousness, unless you seriously center your build around it, the Shield is not all that main a thing for the General-- I've had it activate only like 3 times. It's the raw DEF boost that has been excellent for me, and is why Alex laughs off STR attacks. Plus Hold the Line is useful, I just haven't needed to/remembered to use it.

I think many character abilities are like that. I personally forgot that Mages have the ability to walk over rivers. Which is funky, but I like it.

@PM: I'm not saying Alexander isn't tanky, I'm saying that if a sentinel / soldier-general had thirty def and your PSs they would be just as tanky, if a bit more due to lack of armored vulnerability. The difference in starting Def between a soldier and a knight is four, which can be dropped to two with a char gen investment. That difference is gonna be caught up real quick. Unless you want Hold the Line or be a great knight, it sadly is best to be a soldier to be a knight.

That's not right in my opinion, you should never have a class that is just flat out better at another classes's specialty.

Also, yeah stat% chance stuff don't go off very often. I'm wondering if applying an x2 would be too much, because some of them are pretty dang strong. But at the same time, even as strong as they are, if they never go off then why get them?

Hold the Line is pretty nice, granted.

But I think half the reason is that even if it's just a 4 point difference, it's the DEF for the level, too; 11 DEF at level 1 is pretty damn good, 13 if you also shove a PS in there.

That four defense is the reason most attacks don't do anything to me.

At the beginning, yes, but the differences start to lessen as levels are gained until you hit the stat cap, in which case any advantage is swiftly lost.

Let's say there are two characters, a knight and a soldier. Each put two in Def at the start, seventy progression in Def, and take the same personal skills. The knight hits the cap of twenty in twelve to thirteen levels roughly (assuming a start of 11 as Role stated), during that time having a higher def than the soldier. In those twelve to thirteen levels, the soldier had similar gain, now at sixteen. In five to six levels, they both now have twenty Def and the differences between them in Def are null.

Edit: Fixed.

But that's why you don't put 70% DEF Progression. You put, like, 40-50%. You'll have barely hit the stat cap when you promote, at which point the stat cap raises, and once again will barely hit it. You can then put that 20-30% leftover somewhere else, like RES, HP, or SKL.

Also, what? in ten levels, the soldier gained 11 Def from the base of 7, to hit 18?

EDIT: Also, if I'm going Knight, I'm probably going Great Knight for the mobility. Which means I'm taking Nullify, because fuck being weak to both Ridersbane and Armorbane.
