There are several such good programs. I used Tiled for FEF and DAME for game maps because of their easy image and CSV exporting, respectively. For prettier maps like in older days Flash was used (it has similar functions).

To improve legibility, all characters are white with an automatic black stroke via photoshop. You can do this with GIMP, too.

It looks good and it kind of reminds of Secret of Mana a little bit. It doesn't look the same, but it's reminiscent, y'know?

I do agree, the Pokemon one just all around looks better really. Flows nice, easily legible, has a style to it that I think goes nicely with FE.

Did you remember to bookmark all of your mugshots on your phone's browser? Took me a while to figure out to do that :V

If you have a smartphone (Android, iPhone), you can make a note/text file with the bbcodes with both your characters' mugshots and their text color. All you gotta do then is paste it over and type your message

Imma do FFS's suggestion so I can at least use mugs. Good thing I kept a naming scheme with them.
