Damon watched with glee as the survivors worked as a well oiled machine. With merely a pull of a trigger Damon removed a majority of the common infected from the small base the survivors had established beside the truck.

“Yeah! GOOD JOB DAMON!” Melody laughed as she pulled out her pistols in preparation for further distanced threats.

“Hey, what can I say? I’m pretty awesome.”

“Yeah, plus you let them go out with a bang!” Mark laughed as Damon simply shook his head.

“Pipe-bomb out!” Shouted Clair, or at least the others assumed it was Clair. The inflection seemed more like Uriel but they didn’t exactly have time to react as another large wave of infected spewed from the hallway behind them…

Only to ignore the survivors entirely and run towards the pipe-bomb.

“Huh… I didn’t think that would work.” Damon muttered as the infected attempted to destroy the small cylinder.

“What are you doing?” Uriel asked as she turned to Damon, shoving pills in his hand.

“What do yo-?” Damon began but was cut off.

“If you go down you’re a liability! Get away from the bomb and take the damn pills.”

“Uh Aye-aye?” Damon was a little shocked at the order but didn’t really want to argue at this point. Looking to Jeffrey the two shared a brief nod as Damon limped behind the truck.

Dry swallowing the pills was unpleasant but the pain started to fade almost instantly. “Well we have some breathing room finally… Only a boomer and if he shows his face he’ll get blasted before he takes two steps.” Damon set his Shotgun on the cleanest part of the truck and sat down on the ground. “Damn I’m bushed…”

“HOLY-!”

Damon barely had time to register Mark’s voice before he heard an odd sound.

“BARROOOOOOOOOM!!!!” followed by three yelps of pain.

The first thing Damon noticed was a gust of wind and a gust of wind and a blur before he saw Jeffrey fall out of the sky.

He vaguely heard what sounded like Clair yelping as another thud landed to his left but Damon became far too focused on what was happening that he didn’t have time to prevent it.

-A brief moment before-

“So… Jeffrey?” Mark said as he prepared himself for the next wave of infected.

Jeffrey took a second to look towards the young man with an inquisitive look.

“We must be doing pretty well right?”

Jeffrey tilted his head in confusion before Mark gave him a smile.

“Because we’ve rendered you speechless. Eh? Eh? Pretty good right?”

Jeffrey smirked slightly but smacked Mark’s knee with his elbow before turning towards the front of the truck again to keep a watch for any rogue infected and to keep an eye out for the boomer.

That’s when the bulky Charger stepped around the corner.

“HOLY-!”  cried Mark as he attempted to roll out of the corridor they were in but he wasn’t nearly fast enough.

“BARROOOOOOOOOM!!!!”

Mark didn’t register the fact that Jeffrey and Clair went flying far up into the air in what could possibly be deadly arcs. He didn’t register the fact that the charger was moving far faster than any human could possibly move. No, the only thing he registered was that the stubby fingers somehow managed to grip his entire body.

As the Charger slammed into a wall which forced it to stop Mark finally realized something through the pain.

‘I’m going to die…’
