“I LOVE this gun!” Damon all but shouted as he looked at the ashes in front of the group. All that remained of the small mob of infected that had stood in the corner of the office building’s corridor. None of the others had to even raise their guns.

“I’m not fond of it myself.” Ugly Jim stated with a small smile “But it is useful.”

Jeffrey simply shook his head and then signed to Clair.

“I agree. You have too much of a tolerance for that thing Jim. Me and Jeffrey would have made him ditch it.”

“I’ve been on fire before…”

This revelation seemed to come as a shock to most of the group “How? When?” Mark asked.

“I was working in a soup kitchen once that burned down.”

“I think I heard about that from my dad. Was it the one on Harrison street?” Damon asked turning towards the large man.

“Yeah. Anyway I was inside and went back in to get a girl’s doll.”

“You risked your life for a doll?” Melody asked somewhat surprised. It seemed like a bad reason to go back into an inferno.

“Yeah. She was crying so hard about it. I figured it was all she had left.” Jim said with a smile “Her dad was very grateful. Last I heard they’d managed to get back into a good job and are living in Pennsylvania. Maybe I’ll go there and check up on them. Never saw someone so happy over a doll.”

“That’ll be nice.” Damon said with a small grimace as he turned away from Jim. He didn’t see a point to telling Jim about that rumor he had heard about the infection being in Pennsylvania already.

Fun times! Now any weapon with Rare-Ammo does NOT gain special ammo from weapon packs. While I’m not removing the actual ammo from Damon’s flamethrower I AM reverting it to regular ammo. 15 kills in one go at that range is unacceptable for the game. So enjoy the free use of your flamethrower this turn. Sorry man… I really didn’t want to do it but it would end up making EVERYONE else on the team the Justice League. Just there to protect superman if kryptonite shows up.

I mean, I don't know how far away the infected were, but it'll kill any common it touches, after all...

I was just thinking nerf Explosive so it did half damage to adjacent squares, since that's how a lot of games have it. But your call. I've still got plenty.(you'll notice that I would only have run out of ammo about this point, since I only used four shots before the ammo pack, and this is the fourth shot after it. I've been sparing.)

Jim thought back on that time. Heh, the firefighters had scolded him, his boss had scolded him, even a lot of the homeless regulars had scolded him for putting himself at risk for something so "trivial". It was a good place, that, but they weren't able to get the funds to rebuild.

"Guess I'm just a martyr." He laughed quietly to himself. When the others looked at him ,questioning his quiet laugh, he just shook his head, smiling.

Melody was surprised at Ugly Jim's rescue of the doll and thought back on what she'd done in her life. Nothing she'd done could compare to that. In fact, her 19 years had been filled with pain and regrets. She remembered the look on her mother's face when Melody had first brought home a wad of money. Melody regretted stealing, but the couldn't just sit there and watch her baby sister starve. But when they had needed her most, she wasn't there... she failed them...

Eager to get her mind off this, she pushed forward.

“Alright guys there’s a Boomer around the corner. Better be careful just in case.” Ugly Jim stated as the group slowly walked towards the wall trying to avoid attracting the bloated infected’s attention.

“Hm…” Damon looked down at his weapon of choice.

“What is it Pyro?” Clair asked

“Well… Think maybe the bile will be burned if I toast him with this?”

The group was silent for several seconds before Mark said “Yeah! It should! It’s worth a try right? We’re in a purely linear hallway. Best chokepoint ever right?”

“Well…” Jim was uncomfortable with this plan “Maybe…”

“Come on, let’s do it!” Clair laughed at the idea of a burning fat man.

“Alright. On the count of three…”

At the count of one Damon confidently strode forward towards the corner humming to himself.

At the count of two the entire survivor team prepared to rush outwards.

At the count of three several things happened at once.

The first was that the entire survivor group rushed from their cover with Damon in the lead leveling his weapon and pulling the trigger before even checking what was ahead of him.

The second was that the charger, whom had been lurking silently, burst into flames and turned towards the source of the heat.

The third thing was that the Boomer, who was simply too far away, looked away from its previous distraction to notice the survivors and begin waddling towards them.

It was the Boomer’s distraction, however, that was the most interesting. A young woman with beautiful curly hair sat in the floor crying gently to herself. The only problem was that this young woman had claws as long as her forearm.

“Shit! WITCH!” Melody cried out as she began firing on the charger who decided  now would be the best time to live up to it’s name.

Damon for his part was unaware of this development. He had ears only for the sweet song of his flamethrower and his vision was blocked by a towering inferno.

“WHO THE HELL IS CRYING!?” Clair shouted annoyed at the infected as she placed a bullet into the stomach of the Boomer.

“It’s a witch! Be careful!” Melody replied as she turned around only to notice that Jeffrey appeared highly frightened of the creature.

With the Charger reduced to ashes Damon finally took a moment to listen to his team-mates “Be careful of what? Fatass and the One-Armed Wonder are dead…”

Silence reigned for a moment as Damon noticed that Ali was pointing silently behind him. Turning around he finally noticed the Witch. The problem was that she had finally noticed the survivors. Her eyes saw only Damon, the source of the discomforting heat. She did not charge but here eerie gaze never wavered.
