Get lots of food (you don't need to bring much with you, though). Build a kitchen and make lots of lavish meals, on repeat.
Trade the meals for stuff- they are super easy to replace and get made quickly by a dedicated cook. Also, trade for more foodstuffs. Dwarves like variety in their food.
Store everything in rock pots. Elves don't like to be offered wood products like barrels and bins so be super careful about that (unless you are wanting "difficulties").
Food trade is definitely overpowered, IMHO but can be used easily and successfully in most situations.
