July 28th 2084, 10.15PMThe dropship lands at Base 12, and the two teams exchange good natured banter and trash talk as they switch over, much of it directed at the wounded Luke who heads to the medbay. The dropship heads straight back on out to tackle the shot down fighter. Heading out this mission are Krevsin, SSG, Scriblee, Sackhead, EJ13TUB, Felius, Unisol and Bruce.
The alien combat armour is dropped off at the lab, ready to be worked on once the new fighter designs are finished.
1.10 AM, Egypt/Libya BorderThe fighter appears to have come down near a market or bazaar of some kind.
Tiruin drops the troops in an open area before hightailing it out into the desert to await the pickup call – there is little in the way of cover here for a big troop transport.
SSG makes the LZ a little safer by taking down a Shevaar who was up on a roof overlooking our position.
Wary of long range plasma fire the squad spread out, taking cover behind the low buildings. From a mosque in the distance, the distinctive spatter of plasma on stone walls can be heard, along with screams. Clearly that is where we need to be heading.
SSG has a clear view of 2 aliens on top of the Mosque, and wounds one with a shot to the knee before heading to support the main push along the right side of the open square. Sackhead, Unisol and Krevsin head along the right side of the square.
As the squad advances they hear more distant plasma fire, but there is no sight of any further aliens.
Then, not from the direction anticipated, a Shevaar comes into view. Its plasma blaster round falls well short of the left hand team. It has no idea the right hand team are there...
First, Scriblee wounds is with a burst of HMG fire, then...
... showing no regard at all for his personal safety, Sackhead rushes the alien, rams his stun rod into its chest and sends 15000 volts through it. The Sheevar spasms wildly, and drops down stunned. If we can get this alien home, we will have our first live specimen for
torture interrogation.
Sackhead continues to ride his luck as a second Shevaar rushes at him, showering his upper body with plasma. Wounded badly, the red mist descends and he rushes this alien too...
... and shocks it, but this Shevaar does not go down so easily. Unisol rushes to his aid, stabbing it twice in the side of its body, but it still won’t drop, despite losing a lot of blood.
Krevsin responds to the noise of the struggle, pulls his sidearm, and sends a plasma bolt into the wall behind the alien. Not that helpful.
Scriblee moves to get a clear shot on the alien, and a short burst of fire takes it down, stunned, wounded, but alive. His fire also hits Unisol in the back, but doesn’t penetrate her armour. She and Sackhead will need to work on each other’s wounds while the rest of the squad advance.
As the advance continues, EJ13TUB spots an armoured Taman, apparently also rushing to the scene of the melee. He drops a grenade in front of it, but the shrapnel makes no impact on its tough armour plates.
From the same direction, a Shevaar comes charging at Scriblee, hitting her with a plasma ball. She bleeds out in moments, lying dead in the dirt in a pool of her own blood.
EJ13TUB extracts vengeance with a grenade rolled at the feet of Scriblee’s killer, shredding its legs with shrapnel.
Krevsin shows some solid understanding of projectile motion to land a pair of grenades right on the armoured Taman, ending the alien threat in the area.
Overall? Not bad. One dead rookie, 2 wounded rookies, but two live aliens to return to the containment unit. I authorise investigation of these specimens with no restriction on the methods used to gather information. They would see us dead and we need to find out why. No doubt we will learn much from them. When their equipment is processed, a hand held device resembling a grenade is found – and sent to the lab to be investigated in the near future. SSG has been promoted to Corporal thanks to his consistent rate of kills. The badly damaged UFO is sold off to Russia for a neat 13000 Cr. We again have one empty bunk at Base12 that is going to be filled by an incoming recruit immediately.
Headstand is nearly up and running – its pair of fighters are armed with a traditional human loadout pending alien upgrades and ready to take down UFO's, and the last facilities will be done inside a week ready for the arrival of workers and materiel.
