I just realized it, one of the aliens most powerful weapons looks like a glowing weed wacker.

Uhh, give me a soldier. I'll be wanting a rifleman, ideally using a laser rifle if you still have them (yes, they are less powerful than plasma rifle, but they are much more accurate).

I havent even researched them yet, but when I do, they will get used. A lot.
By the way, MGLs with shotgun rounds and rocket launchers are soposidly OP as hell.

Whats an MGL? Rocket launchers will kill anything with one hit, but they are hevay as hell (so only really strong soldiers can carry one, with one or two reloads at best) and they take loads of TU's to fire and reload, balancing them somewhat.

Done for next update!

July 15th, 10.20AM
The last 3 bunks in the dorm are now filled. Cleetus “Sackhead” Lee joins us from the Alabama police force – he is even more of a stereotype than Bruce, if that is possible... he willingly wants to get up close and personal with the aliens, so I have given him permission to use a stunrod as a primary weapon. I hope he doesn’t get hurt too badly.

Grigor “Felius” Andrevich is a Ukrainian infantryman, with an exceptional rifle score in basic. I fear the minor inaccuracy of the plasma rifle may not allow him to show this skill to its full potential, but he should still be able to kill plenty of aliens with one.

Jack EJ13TUB comes to us from the anti-terror branch of the London Met. Apparently storming buildings loaded with hostile people was not dangerous enough. For some reason he has his postcode written on the label of all his clothing, so it will serve as a good nickname.

Our budget now stands at just over 500,000 Cr. The construction of our second base is eating into our funds, but before long it will be operational and no doubt begin paying for itself.

July 19th, 2.50PM
Our radar facility has been upgraded. During the downtime we received no reports of alien activity – this might be down to good luck, or the fact that they simply went undetected.  Our radar range and resolution has been significantly improved, and I predict we shall be detecting far more enemy craft than before.

6.30PM
We have detected the sensor signature of what we believe to be a landing scout UFO in coastal Pakistan, based on its low footprint on the new gravitational sensor. The drop ship is on its way - with luck this should be fairly straightforard - its not as if you could fit many aliens on a scout.

Grenade launchers. The are under heavy, have three kinds of ammo and can be used as a shotgun, a sort of flamethrower or just as a grenade launcher. Six fire modes on those fuckers.

In the dev version of 2.5 they have been nerfed slighty - they do have 3 kinds of ammo, but the range and accuracy of the flechette rounds is horrible. The HE and IN rounds are good, but thier parabolic flight path makes them almost impossible to use in anything other than wide open spaces, leaving yourself open to huge amounts of return fire. They are also quite heavy and carry limited ammo, but they are one of the best early to mid game weapons. They also have been changed to only fire one shell at a time, with either detonate on impact or a timed fuse setting.

July 20th 2084, 6.20AM
Frustrating. The Scout UFO appeared to react to the incoming dropship, taking off to flee. Tiruin was given permission to pursue and open fire, but the Scout proved too fast and made it out of radar range. The dropship returns to base with a disappointed yet relieved crew.

July 25th 2084, 5.50PM
Disassembly of a Harvester has been completed. We now have nearly 1000 metric tons of alien alloy, in addition to enough equipment to arm Birdy-51’s interceptor with twin particle beams and an alien EW suite.

The radar station at Headstand is now online, though the base still is not operational – before long all manufacturing processes will be relocated there, and extra space devoted to lab operations at Base 12.

July 27th 2084, 7.55PM

A fighter class UFO has been triangulated using both our radar stations over India. Haspen and Birdy-51 have been sent out to take it down. For some unknown reason the alien craft flies over Asia, then turns north towards Russia. At that instant a scout is also detected, though that can wait until the armed fighter is shot down – which it is with ease by Birdy-51, though the wreckage lands in Lake Baikal and rapidly sinks.

Attention then turns to the scout over the Middle East. Birdy-51 bags this one too and it comes crashing down in northern Kazakhstan. The dropship is sent out – there is no chance of this one escaping us. This may even be the one that gave us the slip earlier.

July 28th 2084, 5.20PM
As the dropship heads to the crash site (with Kickingbottom, Luke, MaxClone Beta, Barry, Roy, S1.1 and Edgar onboard), another enemy fighter is spotted, this time to the west. Our fighters have just enough fuel to go give it a hard time and keep it away from the dropship, though they probably won’t get there until the ship has landed, carried out our ground mission and started making its way back to base.

Spoiler: Like swatting flies (click to show/hide)

7.15PM, Russian/Kazakh border
Tiruin drops the troops off a short distance away from some kind of border control bunker that local security say is where the Xeno’s have holed up, and they approach on foot.

The squad assume a breach formation, ready for the troops armed with close combat weapons to burst through the door, supported from behind with those carrying rifles.

Spoiler: INCOMING! (click to show/hide)

Before the squad makes its move, a Shevaar lobs some wildly inaccurate plasma way short of the squad from up on the roof above. S1.1 misses in her effort to take it down, so MaxClone Beta shreds it with a grenade slammed into its chest.

Spoiler: Skills! (click to show/hide)

That taken care of, Luke kicks the door open...

... to find 3 aliens in the bunker, one on the ground near the door, and two Taman wearing a new form of combat uniform on a raised balcony.

Spoiler: This is new... (click to show/hide)

Is this some kind of uniform indicating a high rank, or some kind of protective armour? Either way, Luke opens fire...

... blowing the legs clean off the Shevaar, but taking a skim hit in the arms in return. He falls back to Edgar for treatment.

Kickingbottom repeats the trick, blasting the lower legs off one of the Taman on the balcony.
Disarcade sprays HMG fire all around where the final alien is hiding, scoring a light wound in its back.Roy too lands a hit on the back of the alien, but this appears not to penetrate the aliens clothing, suggesting that it is indeed some kind of advanced armour.

Barry slides the door shut as everyone repositions ready for a second go at the door. Suddenly, from inside, a shout of what appears to be alien rage can be heard. On Kickingbottom’s signal, Barry slides the door open again as she rolls through. On its way to the door in a rush is the wounded Taman. She dispatches it with a burst of plasma fire to its midriff. Area clear.

Spoiler: Digestive discomfort. (click to show/hide)

A successful mission. One light wound, and some interesting new alien tech in the form of the first alien armour we have seen since the start of the war. The scout craft wreckage is hardly worth recovering with the number of Harvester class craft we have awaiting dismantling so it is sold off to the UA.

Meanwhile, Haspen has engaged the enemy fighter and shot it down over the Egypt/Libya border. A second combat team is briefed and ready to board the transport the second it arrives back at base.
