Aedan refers Will to Icarus' words on page 1121for or somewhere abouts there.

<I'd expect my daughter to remember that we were advised to not attack for a while as security would have been stepped up due to our search. And given how frequently you voice your distaste for me I was lead to believe you only use the word father to refer to me for some sick sense of irony.>

<And I'd expect you of all people, who is usualy the first to charge at the enemy head first, to not give a damn about what some dude said. Ashley was being experimented upon, likely cruel experiments. I could not bring myself to ask her about details. This needed to stop, and we needed a plan. And as a result, you may have noticed we faced almost no opposition at all. Not because I am a technicaly genius, but because I was determined to save Ashley and did not give up. As for the distaste? I am being hard on you because I care. Your conduct is painful to Lunette and Me. But that does not mean you running away and abandoning us does not hurt even more. It only shows that you care so little about us, that you'd rather leave us and everyone in the castle behind, than try to change things. It's like alcoholism, except your problem is running away. Stop running away. It hurts you and those around you.>

Bartimaeus just nods
<Please don't be sad Kyle. All of us care about you.>

<Is this all you have to say to this? Do you care so little about not only your daughters but all your friends that you won't even try?>

Rose glances at Bartimaeus, "N-no reason. I just... feel like I'm going to accidentally step on someone. That's all. It's... very nerve-wracking."

Rose hugs Mimi back, "It's... okay. You're smaller, so you... obviously don't worry about it so much."

<And how am I supposed to respond? Would you prefer I break down and cry and make promises I can't keep? I'll be honest, it'll be as hard for me to do this as it is to go cold turkey.>

Rose smiles and pats Mimi on the head, "Yes you are."

Rose then heads back to the castle, looking around for Alice.

<There we go, finaly a reaction from you other than a brief dismissal. Admitting that this is hard for you is at least an honest emotion. Keep up with that. Don't shut us out. We are your family and friends. We are there for you too. But we can't if you ust shrug things off and then flee to a different continent.>
