They seem to ressemble ripples upon the surface of a fluid. The brief liquefaction of the ground certainly do strengthen that resemblance.

The lack of any activity makes the whole experience slightly less immersive than watching paint dry, come to think of it, what are the circles made of? It certainly glows too much to be paint...
