So, they can calculate things far faster than people and perform time consuming, tedious functions with great efficiency. They can be connected to a giant network called the internet, people trade, display information, socialize and whatnot using it and many parts of society have become dependent on it.
A bot, is a computer controlled by a program, a set of instructions, usually against the user's permission by malware, harmful sets of instructions used to hijack computers. A botnet is like an army of them, a coordinate group. A voluntary botnet is one established with the consent of the people who own the computers.
Servers, that is, what holds the stuff on the internet can only process so many things. Sending a lot of random requests to them slow them down. end enough and then crash, that is, they screw up and stop working. DoS, Denial of Service attacks send a bunch of false requests to try and screw them up. DDoS, Distributed Denial of Service attacks have a group of computers do that.
Thus a voluntary botnet can be used to run a DDoS without the users needing to even operate them or have the required skills. Hell has very good computers. There are many demons in a single legion. Nobles have multiple legions. If every demon in every legion of a group of nobles enter a voluntary botnet and run a DDoS, it can get rid off important stuff on the internet for a while. Or at least slow it down.
The internet is vital to some forms of communication and information spread. We can theoretically kill that spread temporarily. Many use it for commerce. Crash a business site and they can't sell their products online, causing losses.>
