"I don't pretend to understand Shade. Living girls is one thing. Ghosts are an unknown to me. Probably has to do when you pretended to be dead thought and made her cry." Samson shrugs and begins cleaning his pistols.

And with that, Bartimaeus suddenly dematerializes and comes back with a canvas and a bunch of paint. He begins to stroke paint across the canvas.
