If any of them had underwater vision (or night vision; I'm assuming the caverns are dark) they would be able to see that he's naked got an animal-themed bathing suit on.

 "Nice underwear, Lyle." mermaid!Bartimaus says, surfacing from the water in front of Lyle with nothing but a seashell bra on.
