heh, there is actually quite a bit of room for character development and interaction here. I mean, we were basicaly in an idealised matrix, where we were more powerful and talented than what is actually going on. Alice for example, would still be very much cursed when she wakes up.

edit: btw, we don't just need a setting overhaul, we could also use a system overhaul, both for combat and for magic. For starter, make mag and mind more relevant. Too much magic is still rolled on dex, and resisted with end. it's basicaly a normal attack, but with mag instead os tr to determine the damage.

secondly, magic and interactions with other magic. I think magic needs attributes associated with them, and every character, including villains, should have at least one attribute weak too, and one attribute resisted. various attributes could have side effects on their spells, various physical attacks could also have attributes.

if anyone is interested in this, I have an old system for magic attributes lying around, I could modify that for rotmg

It's not too fleshed out, but they're called Affinities and essentially work something like Creation>Void>Twilight>Creation. Attacks strong against the affinity deal x2 damage, attacks that aren't as effective deal .5x damage. I was thinking adapting the Pokemon system of type effectiveness.

I think I could make my characters adapt to such a thing as well.

Alucard in hiding, researching the void and summoning entities to do small-scale assaults on Layar bases.
Bartimaeus trapped inside an anti-void bottle, laying in the deserts of Saudi Arabia.
HILDA shapeshifting into a rock or something and entering hibernation mode.
Lizzie would probably be captured or dead.
Same with Winry.

Also, piecewise is offering a bit of advice. He suggested cutting down on characters and (amusingly) simplifying the rules.

hmm, I am thinking about the magic affinities

I am thinking 4 main principles, void, creation, mind and force. Each of the principles has one pure form, and overlapping forms with whatever is not directly opposite, as well as one main element associated (cutting down from 6 elements back to just 4)

frankly because twilight hardly ever appears in the game, and seems to be something rather unique, I'm so far not really into sorting that into the system as well.
