...You realize Ashley doesn't know EVERYTHING, right? As far as she is aware, it is near impossible for a caster to cast both for a period of time. I would say mainly due to the fatigue of a living being from having to balance the two. As for the fields, I'd imagine the people that set them up would know how to properly balance them since fatigue isn't an issue.
