Well maybe if you would ask I could explain!
All I ever see when people talk about Kyle is jokes about his love life or talking about he's stupid.
Well...
yeah.
In game no one seems to respect him enough to listen to him. Like for example, when he was talking about the manticores. No one even tried to stop them non-lethally when Kyle had shown it was possible and then he gets yelled at when he gets upset about it!
Well...
1. IC we didn't know it was possible until Kyle showed up.
2. It required a
damn good roll.
3. We're more annoyed at the implication that stopping monsters who are killing kids is somehow morally wrong.
GWG, be silent!.
That's a damn good way to make me want to debate
more.
we are playing moraly grey characters because that's what we like to play. It's role-play, where you think of a character and play that characters role. that means considering the characters circumstances and acting accordingly. Not everybody has fun just playing idealised self-inserts.
On the other hand...
A. if your character does something wrong, you shouldn't keep arguing that they were right. Like kj is doing with his argument about "Kyle doesn't care about the other kids" being something other than heinous.
B. if you're going to play a morally gray character, try to hint at the shade of gray before putting the lives of monsters above those of their victims.
so for the sake of the fun of the players, quit just giving comments on everything, we are not commenting on Will all the time either (and there is much tos ay, seriously)
So say it.
you might not perceive it that way, but you are occasionaly very condescending. And that can drasticaly reduce the fun of some players.
And you know what bugs me? People doing heinous actions and no one else even caring.
this is not a game about being right or wrong, so stop trying to prove so hard that you are right about everything.
The problem is, I'm not exactly defending hard points.
Letting kids get eaten by manticores is wrong. Defending them is right.
Killing huge numbers of people is wrong. Trying to take measures so people can be kept away nonlethally is good.
Stuff like that.
nobody wants KJ to quit
Sure sounds like kj wants kj to quit. Which was the point of my statement.
by all accords, kyles approach WAS the most humane solution.
Yes, but...
A. it wasn't likely to succeed (required a damn good crit),
B. it really
shouldn't have succeeded (you can't turn a lion into a puppy with some calm words)
C. Kyle seems to be treating the characters' decision of killing the manticores to be a heinous action, and
D. kj is defending Kyle's views on this last point.
it DOES however also make sense from everyone elses perspective that they just wanna kill them on the spot. They have been fighting and exploding monsters for years now, and once you are powerful enough to do so, you won't stop to think twice about wether this is the best way. remember, if all you ever use is a hammer, everything looks like a nail
That's insulting. Sometimes, using a hammer is the best solution, you know? It's worth the manticore's life to take the 100% chance of stopping the murders as opposed to the maybe 5% chance of calming the beast.
I suspect most people still kind of view Kyle as comic relief.
That. That pisses me off more than the pokes to his character. I did write Kyle to be a comic relief.
Before I respond...that's a typo, right?
I think Kyle is kind of justified given the fact no one seems to ever listen to him and now they just let some random person into the house.
He's not the only person to complain, and if the other option wasn't "bar new players from entering" you'd better believe my characters would be questioning this a lot.
Incidentally, why hasn't Kyle complained about any previous person to enter the house? Even the one who admitted to being a serial killer?
Well, it depends. Outwardly hostile to Kyle or his friends is instant murder.
You mean like, say, firing poisonous quills at Nuriel and maiming various people?
(Not sure if he counts Cullodus or Catherine as friends, but since he's been with Nuriel through the Layar Invasion and slept with her, she should probably count.)
GWG, Kyle can be characterised however Kj wants, long as it doesn't lead him to doing a Darnos and permanently fucking up the world/players.
And that's fine, as long as
A. these things don't come out of nowhere, and
B. kj doesn't try to justify (not explain,
justify) Kyle's heinous actions.
If I seriously have to get more arguments over the actions of characters that aren't hideously game breaking and aren't in character (which it is for Kyle) I will shut down the thread, both IC and OOC. Am I to be understood? This is directed at everyone.
I'd like to make this post since I would have if there weren't a zillion freaking ninja (you guys post a lot faster than I can respond), but after that sure.
