a) Anti-magic fields, like IRIS already used them years ago have become relatively common, if expensive. The government uses them to cover most public areas and buildings, but private corporations, like banks, can also obtain licenses to protect their buildings from magic. Vigilantism is less and less tolerated, especialy if the magic used for it is harmful. Private companies need a license for anti-magic fields, and need to respect whitelists. Many magic communites are protesting against the fields quite regularly.
b) All magic users need to be registered, and if they want to use their magic in public, they need a license, so they can be whitelisted from the anti-magic fields. Get caught magicing in public without a license, and the punishment depends mostly on what you were doing, but is usualy handled demonstratively strict, to get the message across. Get caught without being registered at all and trouble awaits. These licenses require both a psychological evaluation and proof that you have your ability under controle.
c) There is a bit of tension going on in business, where magic simply out-performs traditional craft. A good example would be healers for example, who can deal with so many things within minutes and with little problem where traditional medicine has great trouble. However as medical magic services vary a LOT in quality, most insurance companies don't pay for them, making that kinda stuff something for the rich - further increasing tension. Meanwhile traditional doctors earn less and less, despite having spent so much time and money on education. Similar developments can be seen in many branches of business.
1. Out of the First-World nations, the United States of America is the slowest to accept magic into its everyday life. Why? Well, to start with, it's easily the most religious nation in the Western world, and just imagine how those people banning Harry Potter books would react if they met Harry Potter. More notably, they are (for better or for worse, depending on the issue) overall the most conservative of said nations. Finally, it's been established and never retconned that they had a blanket ban on using magic; this would have hindered progress. DARPA's ties with IRIS mean that the military might have a good amount of enchanted gear, at least for special forces and such, but aside from that and occasional toys for the rich...not much.
2. Japan, on the other hand, has accepted magic quite readily, integrating it with everyday life and technology. First off, there's Yuri's family, which would have been a great boon in making the nation more magical (especially since Japan's small size makes it easier for such things to proliferate). Second off, Japan is perhaps the greatest indisputably successful example of a backwards nation quickly advancing to the State of the Art, and it hasn't really lost its momentum. Finally, think of the implications: Train Cars of Holding, giant majitek robots, and maybe the occasional kaiju.
3. Dragons are still trying to find places to fit in. They don't like humans terribly much, what with dragonslaying and such in bygone ages, and they don't really fit in human cities anyways. (Not that they want to; they have the whole "we'll still be here when you are all gone" thing going on.) They're finding places to live in uncharted rainforests, polar regions, ice caps, and the like, but there's still a bit of tension, not helped by the occasional would-be dragonslayer or attack by a hot-headed wyrmling.
1. All First World, and starting to be integrated in many other, are sensors in stores and banks to detect magically made items or cash to prevent counterfeiting. Sale of many creation items is full out banned in the States, but some countries are fine with it to an extent. The UN has listed a ban on all precious metals, gems, weapons of mass destruction, guns, etc. Creation of any creature life NOT already part of the natural ecosystem is also banned.
2. Many corporations are attempting to exploit the powers of Magic Users, specifically creation users, to further their businesses as quickly as possible. This is causing a bit of public ire. The courts are still working out how severe punishments should be on magic users, especially for those who don't have AS much control over their abilities. Anti-magic designed prisons are attempting to be prepared to hold the truly destructive and bad magic users, but things are difficult.
1. The multiple dimensions/universes theory has been confirmed via magic. However all attempts to actually visit another dimension have ended in failure. Probes stop working and scrying spells just fail for no obvious reason. Obviously no humans or living creatures have been sent to another dimension due to the apparent danger involved. All indications show that they'll never return.
2. Magical clubs/societies have sprung up, and are composed of people who can do or are very interested in magic. These clubs discuss latest advancements in magic, show off their powers, construct magic circles for fun, conduct fundraisers, petition governments about issues affecting these topics and many other things. Not all nations or countries have these clubs though, and they are more common in tolerant countries like Japan and Australia.
3. With access to teleportation magic, space flight becomes much more cheaper and practical, which has sparked a second space race. No longer constrained by orbital dynamics and rocketry, mankind has visited most of the (relatively) habitable planets and moons in the solar system, spurred on by feelings of national pride and the desire to be the first to do something. More practically, plans for Lunar and Martian colonies are in the works, and the number of probes in space has increased exponentially. Additionally many asteroids in the solar system are being prospected for metals and minerals, and several are being prepped for teleportation back to Earth to be mined. Needless to say the various governments of the world are scrambling to try and keep up with all of the legal cases and legislature that this second space race is creating.
1. Shape shifting is a lot more common now, and some have formed groups, much like USEC's idea of magic clubs. They do a lot of the same things as he suggested.
1: Many governments around the world have set up an elite task force which deals with unregistered and dangerous magic users, these forces are equipped and trained specifically to deal with magic users. Usually the head of each squad is a magic user themselves.
2: Special schools have been set up to teach control to those with uncontrollable or dangerous powers, each of the schools are built away from the rest of society and each have their own anti magic generator. Due to the cost of providing both the expertise and the equipment provided to teach this control there are only a few of these in first world countries so far.
3: Prisons to deal with people who possess magic have begun to be set up, these are very high security prisons and even people with minor magic who commit crimes find themselves locked up inside them. They each of course have their own anti magic generator to make sure that those inside cannot commit magic of any kind.
3rd world countries are clamoring for magic citizens to reveal themselves as a way to close the gap between themselves and the developed world, such magicians are being state sponsored as a matter of course with any past crimes wiped off the book and a blind eye generally turned for low level crimes they may commit.
There are small communities that came together because they believe the growing magic is a sign of the end times, they hold up with munitions stores that are frankly absurd for their size. And shoot anyone found to be a magician without question, these are mostly breakaway religious groups, but some "scientific" people that refuse to believe their eyes can be found as well.
Magical creatures are generally seen as a boon in society, but are also treated by most as outsiders, this is not helped that some are able to easily replace most unskilled labour with a cheaper alternative, even if paying more per individual
Shape-changers are required to register as such and must carry identification for all of their forms where identification is required, if an unrestricted shapechanger they must settle on a base form for ID and be chipped.
A. The medical world has begun integrating IRIS made artificial limb machines. The relatively cheap nature of the machines and their produced items have made them a great boon and sturdier versions of them have been seeing use in the military for disabled soldiers.
B. Nintendo and IRIS have gained an obscene amount of money from sale of official pokemon. They require a license in many areas but it is agreed that it is worth it to get one if only as a pet for your child due to the wide variety and the fact that they also are low cost protection.
2. Getting a license, as a shapeshifter, is required, much like the Animagi of the Harry Potter series.
3. Certain companies have taken to employing shapeshifters of a specific species (or multiple specie), effectively making them more intelligent guard dogs that are also paid.
4. The most common shapeshifters can turn into normal animals, i.e. dogs, cats, birds, fish, etc. Whether through better training or just chance, a small few have been able to transform into pseudomagical creatures such as manticores, chimeras, and even one or two dragons. Shapeshifters of high-power magical entities, such as demons, have yet to be recorded anywhere.
1.New York is now in an eternal eclipse caused by curse magic and most of the city is in ruin.
So far no one has been able to break the curse, let alone survive inside of the "Eternal Twilight."
2. An exhibit known as 'The Gallery' has been opened to the public. It's current location is inside the worlds most famous museum, Musee du Louvre located in France. A man calling himself Dio Granse is the currator.
3. The Order of the True Sword, run by Arthur Dramon, is currently holding a Witch Hunt on a group of Demon Worshipers for destroying multiple holy sites around the world.
1.) ASMRA was reformed under a new name: MP&RA (Magic Protection and Research Association). They have a new CEO (of course), who has set his eyes on regulating magic use in Saudi Arabia. They overthrew a corrupt government and restored order after years of riots over a magic bombing in the capital. MP&RA has become the leading supplier of jobs in Saudi Arabia, and has stopped magical testing unless they are given permission by the said magic user to study how it works. They've developed a prototype armor suit that has magical properties to give a mundane soldier to have a chance against criminals who use magic.
2.) The void gate still stands outside of Kyle's castle (and if the castle is now flying, then it remains where the castle once stood).
3.) Void and Ashley have divorced, Nodoka living with Void for the time being as Ashley gets settled back in her apartment in Paris.
3. A large ship seeming to be composed of brass and expelling steam made an island in the ocean at some point. It was later revealed it was the monster peoples doing and as of now all monster people are living there.
Entities that seemingly come from the void have been seen around the world, but they have no come from the void gate but were summoned elsewhere. It is rumored that Sanguine have been summoning these entities in large numbers, but nobody seems sure why they defy the void gate completely.
4. With the dawn of what some are calling Mithril Age of Space Travel, putting a satellite into Low-Earth Orbit and even higher orbits became much, much cheaper. This lead to a proliferation of satellites for various purposes, from major (allowing all locations to receive satellite-based telecommunications and surprisingly fast Internet) to petty (an array of geosynchrous communication satellites which keeps one over a given city at all times). Unfortunately, collisions between satellites, often involving so called pirate satellites put in orbits without proper permission, have caused many to believe that Kessler Syndrome is going to be coming into play shortly. It is feared that this could destroy countless satellites, crippling much of the global communications network, especially in poorer countries, and possibly even leading to spacecraft debris crashing to Earth. A spacecraft sent up to try and curb the issue by safely de-orbiting defunct or illegal satellites was famously struck by another satellite within hours of deployment.
