Possible Spoilers: Curious Underground Structure?
« on: August 17, 2013, 01:31:20 pm »

Just ran into something while digging around for candy, and I find this weird slade crap and all I see on my screen is:

You have found a curious underground structure.

What the hell did I just find? :o

Jee wilikers, I think Highmax is near invulnerable, must have been dunked in the river styx like achilles was.
Just make sure he wears a boot.

By all means, explore it. I suppose I should also mention the candy weapon at the bottom. You draw it forth like Excalibur.

Edit; Oh, another thing. I guess I should mention that building is probably full of undead. They are numerous, but weak. Just go in with a fairly strong military and you'll be fine.

Well, this is DF. You have expect to put in a little effort if you've come this far, especially if you want one of the best weapons in game.

Precisely. The weapon at the bottom is amazingly epic; there is nothing that it cannot pierce and no one it cannot slay. However, you have to have a fairly strong military to cut through the hordes of undead guarding it, and then you have to either deconstruct the building, or link it to a lever. You must claim this prize!

Be very careful; Power like what you're about to receive can go to your head. I got the weapon once, and never again did I lose a dwarf to melee!

Be very very careful, it might be a good idea to be able to shut off access to the structure with an emergency bridge or something.

Naaaah, once he's got all the walking stiffs dealt with, there won't be anything left inside the structure to worry about.

Isn't there a bug that the bluemetal sword can't be equipped by dwarves once deconstructed, nor properly stored in stockpiles? Or that was just an isolated case of sword-too-biggitis?

Really, guys, just because High Max can only be hurt by charged-up special weapons... XP

Mr. High Max, nothing is safe in Dwarf Fortress; however, some things are too fun to spoil. Don't ask us questions; take whatever in-game or out-of-game precautions you feel appropriate and claim this mysterious discovery. Enjoy whatever comes of it (we know you can, you would not be playing this game otherwise). Good luck, and have fun!

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!
I spend most of your dimension's time outside of your dimension. I can't guarantee followup or followthrough on any comments, ideas, or plans.

People here laying it on a little thick. The weapon is pretty sweet, but it's not supernatural or anything. It should be a masterwork adamantine weapon (Is it always a sword? I'm not sure). It's no different than any masterwork adamantine weapon your dwarves could make. That said, it's well worth the effort, especially if there's not too much candy on your map.

I gotta find a way to punch into it without flooding the tunnels I have with magma. Its really awkward how my tunnel systems are put together, and I'm itching for some action since no elves or humans arrived on this god forsaken place I got to. Its also a pretty basic untamed wilds in a temperate conifer forest. Only real thing that got me on my toes was a mountain titan that my marksdwarves proceeded to punch many holes into before one ran out of ammo and charged it with 30 other recruits from other squads and knocked his head off with a crossbow. But other then that, its been boring boring boring boring. I also have 53 dwarven children and no use for them and they just keep growing up (a lot of them are now barely adults and drafted into my recruit squad).

If this is the only source of !!FUN!! excluding HFS, then I'll try my luck. I'm gonna have to have my swords sharpened for this one though

Other sources of !!FUN!! include experimental magmaworks, especially when minecarts get involved. Once you've got the game's ready-made challenges sorted, you have to dig your own holes to try and get out of. But those holes are all your own custom work, so it's all good.

It should be a masterwork adamantine weapon (Is it always a sword? I'm not sure). It's no different than any masterwork adamantine weapon your dwarves could make.
Yes it is, it's made by 'an unknown artisan' instead of Urist McWeaponsmith. No better mechanically, but you'll never have another one without adventurer shenanigans. The weapon is always one that uses the sword skill -- imagine finding an adamantine mace...

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

The mace would clearly be manufactured by NERF.

But, yeah. The crap you find down there is amazing. It practically made the game for me. Getting in there is more or less the medal of honor that marks your transition into being a real Dwarf Fortress player.
