((All righty, everyone is on the player list or waitlist as appropriate!  Time to start!))

Deep within the heart of the Splintered Peaks, the largest mountain range in Gainsif, stands a single peak which rises above all others.  Jabbing straight into the clouds like a massive fang poised to rend the sky, Spinecrown has only been seen by humans from a distance, a dark shape looming high into the sky.  This titan of a mountain is the last great stronghold of dragonkind, the final bastion from which they may make their comeback... or their last stand.  For humans are just as greedy as any Mountain dragon, and wish to see their betters dead, so that they may unquestionably rule the world.

Your day begins as many others; you awaken in your family's relatively small niche within the great mountain, and flee the cramped space and your parents and siblings to go to the common space.  A massive open hall carved in the center of the mountain, with winding walkways up and down all the sides--dragons all about, on the floors and in the air, chattering loudly, groaning, arguing, bartering.

It is not the life for a young dragon.  You should have space to grow, to explore, to get into trouble and experience the world.  Instead you are trapped here, amongst your elders, old beasts set in their ways and too slow-changing to adapt to the world any longer.  This is not the life for you.  No, not at all.

The general clamor is interrupted by a sudden bellow, and all dragons fall silent.  At the peak of the mountain, far above and looking down, the Great One is perched.  The final remaining Golden Dragon, last of his kind, the Great One's name is lost to time.  He rarely speaks, and when he does, his words are treated as great wisdom.  And now, he speaks, his voice deep and brassy, ringing down to the dragons assembled attentively below.

"I wish to speak to the young ones.  Come to me, if you are brave."

The voice echoes down to Darktail in the cave he occupies alone.
So, they finally feel the urge to do something. I will see what he has to say.
Go to him, listen in silence.

Walk toward him and listen.

The Great One turns his gaze across all of the young dragons which gathered before him--dozens clamoring about his stone throne.  However, five catch his eye, those which he fixates on immediately.  He studies them intently, gradually waving away each of the other younglings, sending them back down to join their families and friends down below.  One by one, until only five are left.

"You, younglings.  You are the ones I shall choose," he boomed out.  "Or rather, may choose.  A new era is soon to dawn.  A great change of the world.  I am no longer fit to move us to this change, to see to it that dragonkind enters this new age as its masters.  All know that I have not taken part in the world beyond this mountain for centuries, and I know now that I no longer can."

Levi's complaints make one ear twitch and he smirks wryly, wrinkling his ancient snout, his still-sharp eyes amused.  "Yes, it is unfortunate.  But that is why I have called you.  I must have a successor... or successors.  And you, I believe, are the best hope for our kind.  You five must go out of this place.  You must find yourselves, in the outside world, and learn of its workings.  Go now.  Whether you help or hinder one another, I shall not decree.  This is your journey, your quest.  You are yet children; now, you must grow.  No goodbyes, and no gifts of parting... this is a challenge you must rise to.  Now, go!"

With that booming shout, he waves his claw towards the exit of the mountain--a great carved archway in the southern face, opening out into the sky, with a great stone-hewn platform before it to serve as a landing pad for dragons returning from hunts.  Behind you, adults crowd; they will always obey the will of the Great One, and so you find yourselves pushed out of the mountain, banished until you learn yourself enough to become a new leader.

((So this would have been written earlier except my brother bought me The Cat Lady, which I spent all day playing.  Woops.))

What do you mean, Great One? Are we to purge the stink of humanity from this world?
Question the dragon

"Let do this." Katey's wings flapped up "The path I take, will it be a quick death or forever glory?" Her wings flapped down sending her up "Oh one way to find out."

So they leave the fate of dragonkind to us, without a word of advice. How.... human. And these others may not be the best either. i will not follow them. if they follow me, is their decision.
'I go this way.' Fly in a random direction until I find somewhere of interest. Ignore any questions the others ask.

((I know I didn't give too many details about dragon culture and such, but casting young dragons out on their own without any help or advice is very much a dragon thing to do, not human.  Especially Mountain dragon; Mountain dragons generally kick their kids out of the house at a year or two old, and whether they survive or not is their own business~

Cliffwings would certainly not do that, since they're both social and philosophical, but yeah, many species of dragons throw out their kids at a very young age and say "don't come back until you're a grown-up."  Trial-by-fire is extremely common.))
