- Mountain Dragon -
Appearance:
Usually reds and browns in color, with black and white being rare and considered extremely attractive. Markings are uncommon, but not unheard of; usually stripes, sometimes spots or mottling.
Culture: Mountain dragons always thought themselves the kings of the world. Incredibly arrogant, aggressive, and obsessed with wealth and power, these dragons hardly get along with anyone--especially other Mountain dragons. They preferred to live alone as much as possible, staking out large territories and defending them viciously. They believe wholeheartedly that might makes right, and spend little time with intellectual pursuits beyond the occasional indulgence in some riddles. Their presence has scraped many other dragons' hides raw to the point of huge brawls starting, and they are totally unrepentant. Their obsession with gold and other shiny trinkets is legendary, to the point of being a major flaw humans and other dragons will exploit to get the upper hand.

- Cliffwing Dragon -
Appearance:
Colors are usually browns and grays, heavily mottled with darker or lighter spotting across the scales. Yellows are rare and considered attractive. Gray-blue is extremely rare and seen as prophetic. Solid-colors are very rare, but so are distinct patterned markings.
Culture: Cliffwing dragons were an odd mix. Gathering together in large colonies on the cliffs, they deeply enjoyed one another's company but almost never talked. They were entirely content to just be together around other Cliffwings, silent and serene. Their primary communication even with their own family members was written--they would write entire books about how they thought the ocean looked that day. Now in Spinecrown, the constant noise makes them much more angry than they ever were in their old home, and they are known as being grumpy and snappish. They still hold up their habits of writing philosophy, though, keeping it well-hidden to keep other dragons' nosy claws off of their private thoughts.

- Vine Dragon -
Appearance:
Colors are usually greens and blues, rarely yellow which is seen as attractive, and extremely rarely red, which is seen as freakish. Markings and solids are equally common; usually stripes, either horizontal or vertical, but spots are also not rare.
Culture: Vine dragons were often seen as the overgrown children of dragonkind. Living in big groups of chattering, sing-song-talking extended families and friends, there was never a dull moment in a Vine dragon territory. Playing games, singing songs or getting frisky, they were pretty shameless about their childish nature. Now stuck with all these more "mature"--more like
boring, right?!--dragons, they tend to be a little rebellious and defiant as they cling onto their more innocent and somewhat annoying ways. Still, they somehow tend to win a place of grudging affection the hearts of others, because they are so guileless and enthusiastic.

- Cloaked Dragon -
Appearance:
Colors are usually black on the underside and white on top, to hide them from above and below in a night desert sky. This pattern gives them the name "cloaked." Both colors may be tinged with other shades, such as red-black and yellow-white, but markings or bright colors are almost entirely unheard of.
Culture: Cloaked dragons were nocturnal nomads, wandering far and wide across their broad home. Not particularly social, they would live alone or in very small groups, rarely more than three family members. They felt little need to keep in touch with the rest of their own species, and shunned contact with other species of dragonkin. They have so far not adapted well to being gathered together with the others in Spinecrown; they tend to be irritable and avoid others as much as possible.

- River Dragon -
Appearance:
Colors can be nearly any bright color; dull or pastel colors are very rare. Markings are also very rare, but usually stripes when they do appear.
Culture: River dragons were always considered the epitome of scholarly wisdom. Graceful and wise, they spread far and wide, teaching anyone they met if they would accept the knowledge. Disliking pride and greed, they kept their collections simple, focused only on hoarding things of sentimental value or for practical uses. Neither social nor solitary, they would accept company when they found it but not find it a driving need. There was a great deal of tension when they first came to Spinecrown, as many dragons calle them "betrayers" for sharing knowledge with mankind, blaming them for mankind's rise. As the years went by, however, the serene patience of the Rivers wore away this anger, and it is now mostly forgotten.
