Why do I only win battles that aren't tournament battles?

But yeah, Competitive battles. Please? I've gotten by so far by having a small list to work with so I comb through to see what would work, or using a guide in the case of sunny day. But that can't work forever.

I'm a bit busy at the moment, but would you be free later to meet on Showdown? I can show you some stuff. Bring whatever teams you like, but I'll also walk you through the creation of a new team.

@ICBM Pilot: I have to disappear for a few hours, but I'll be on Showdown and waiting for you whenever you can show up as soon as I get back.

Sableye holds the privilege of being on of a very few pokemon to have 0 weaknesses. He also has the ability Prankster, meaning non-damaging moves have +1 Priority. Burn cuts a Pokemon's attack significantly, so everything went to Health and Special Defense, with the Remainder in Defense, and a Careful nature.

End result: Stalleye. Will o Wisp takes care of physical attacks, Taunt stops status inflicters and setups, and Recover makes him incredibly hard to kill. Foul Play means I can hit hard on sweepers too.

Dusclops is technically even tougher though, with an Eviolite and big defense stats putting him around 500 in each defense stay. He's got a more offensive loadout though, Will o Wisp crippling attackers and doing stall damage, with Substitute working with the enemy's puny attacks to make Pain Split quite effective, finishing with Seismic Toss to break through defenses and deal the finishing blow. Pain Split on a new pokemon helps to regenerate.

I'm glad I went with Seismic Toss rather than Night Shade; Normal types are immune to Night Shade!

Here's the replay by the way

....I'm using Spiritomb next time. Or Eelektross.

Spiritomb is meh, but Eelektross doesn't have any immunities besides ground.

As you saw, Sableye has immunities to Psychic, Normal, and Fighting.

Plus Pranskter.

Not that Eelektross isn't good, mind you...

Dragon Claw. Also, Eelektross is essentially without weaknesses now. Also, priority moves.

He is without weaknesses. Completely so.

But Sableye still has 0 weaknesses. And three immunities. :D

Dragon Claw could work though, if it wasn't for Will O Wisp.

And while there are non-normal priority moves, only extreme speed is insured to go before Sableye, and that's normal type. And all the priority moves are physical, which could be a problem if Sableye is faster.

But that's still the only counter, really. :D

EDIT: Well, Pain Split is pretty good against everything, actually. Aron with Pain Split. :D It's like Endeavour but you can keep an item!

Thunder Wave? I suppose Eelektross could paralyze Sableye and then Dragon Claw it to death.

Priority still goes first, Paralyze or no. Plus, Taunt prevents it. And even if a quarter of the time I can't do anything, pretty sure 3 recovers still beats 4 Dragon Claws. But yeah, that's one way. Don't know why Eelektross would be a counter to Sableye, but yeah. Only thing I can think of is an ass-powerful special attacker using something he isn't resistant to as a STAB. Sunny Day or Rain Dance help too.

EDIT:I want Sableye with wonder Guard. Never, ever, ever going to happen, because it would be literally invincible.

Except for Pain Split.

Hmmm..Shedinja with Pain Split...or Endeavour....

Magic Bounce will also troll the troller quite impressively on a switch-in - Xatu and Espeon both receive it.  They'll need to watch out for that Foul Play, but switch in on a predicted Taunt or Will o' Wisp, then switch out to something that resists Dark.

Toxic, Sand/Hail damage, burn, leech seed...oh, and Fire Fang in Gen 4, hilariously enough.  Since you bring it up, Sturdy Shedinja. :3

Well, if you Taunt Sableye, then it's just a matter of switching to Dusclops and back again. :D

I seem to have trouble with Volcarona.

I think it's cause she's one of the only counters to Sableye; Will o Wisp can't burn her, and she's not a physical attacker to Fake Out, plus Bug is resistant to dark (?!?) anyway. Jellicent is a good counter to her in turn, especially with Toxic, but I need to predict when she's coming in. And also not be stupid.

Here's my theory; my team is really good. Possibly good enough to do normal OU. I, however, am not, as a player.
