I've got something somewhat done here for a fighting system. Not too complex, I kept it light for now. I need two players to test it.

You make characters with:
Speed
Strength
Awareness
Dexterity
Endurance

And you have 40 points to split between those stats.

Also, you can choose any normal weapon and any normal armor. By which I mean any sort of armor or weapon you could find in real life.

Are we having a Japanese vs European swords match? (By accident, even!)

But, you know, extremely terrible iron deposits.

(Sorry, it had to be said. I've read far too much technical exposition to not bring it up.)

Ok so we got:

Speed: 3
Strength: 15
Awareness: 1
Dexterity: 6
Endurance: 15

ChaosZweihander

Full on plate, good sir.

No I don't have dark souls on my mind why do you ask.

Strength:7
Awareness:5
Dexterity:9

Ok so Giant dad vs Shiva of the East?

By samurai outfit do you mean like the robes and stuff or full samurai armor?

Anyways, here's how she works. Weapons are either strength and Endurance or Speed and Dexterity based. I'm guessing you can figure out which yours will be, right? Now, first thing we do is roll speed to see who attacks first. After that we go in rounds of "A attacks, B reacts, B attacks, A reacts".

Every time you attack or react, you have to choose how many dice out of your pool you want to use; because you have to use the same pool through the entire round. So if derm uses all his strength to attack, he won't have any strength dice to use when he has to react.

Now, you attack and react via aiming towards a body part on your opponent and using one of these maneuvers. Standard attacks and blocks are easiest, but the other maneuvers have effects that make using them worth while. You can use any of them with any weapon, but clearly some are gonna be harder with some weapons.

Maneuvers

Now, tomorrow morning I shall return with your character and any sort of unique crap related to them (Weapons have bonuses to some stats, some might have unique attacks, armor gives bonuses against wounding but limits speed and strength, etc.)

Do you have a rough idea of how this will work?

I'm tempted to make a Perplexicon-like game, except every character chooses a randomly generated Pack of items, generally a few pieces of armor, a weapon or two, and a sheet of paper with a few words scrawled on it. Each player gets new words with a device found in every pack: insert soul, and new words come out. Hearing a word spoken won't give you the ability to use it.

Weapons may have various descriptors, all given by chance.
I'll probably roll a d12 to figure out the values and everything, where a 1 is a wooden toothpick and a 12 is an adamantine zweihander with an engraving for miasma orbit-orbs. So some packs will be better than others, but you won't always know. You might be told off by certain features of each pack: the "Putrid Purple" pack will likely contain something miasmatic.

Derm:
Speed: 3 (0)
Strength: 15
Awareness: 1
Dexterity: 6 (3)
Endurance: 15

Armor: GIANTS GIANTS GIANTS (full body heavy armor: -3 successes for dealing damage to him. Penalty: -3 speed, -3 strength -3 dexterity

Weapon : Zweihander  (+3 strength , if attack is parried or evaded, standard negatives are doubled)

Execute
Speed:10 (15)
Strength:7
Awareness:5
Dexterity:9 (11)
Endurance:9

Armor: Samurai Robes (No armor: +3 speed +2 dex)

Weapon: Katana (+2 speed. Special attack: Iaito: Attacking or defending from sheathed gives +2 speed successes. Reseathing takes 1 action. )

Alright, these is your characters.

And yeah, each point in a stat equals 1 die in that pool. And then you assign how much of that pool you want to use for any particular action; bearing in mind that it only resets at the end of the combat round. (Note to self, consider maneuvers that force specific stat matches...)

Anyways, Execute basically wins the speed roll by default because Derm has an adjusted speed of 0. So he can either choose to attack first or let derm go.

How you attack is basically to chose a maneuver, look at the stat governing it, and then take however many dice you want from that pool and use them.  So something like "Strike, 6 dice". And then I'll roll the dice. The target number is 4 our higher, but 6 counts as 2 successes and 1 as -1 success.  Oh, and feints have to be called AFTER the defender has posted their defense but before I roll for them. You can PM me about wanting to feint if you fear that your opponent might edit their post to save dice.

You think you understand enough to give it a shot and learn more as you go?

Sounds interesting enough. Let it join the several other perplexicon games going on. LET THIS FORUM BE NAUGHT BUT PERPLEXION GAMES!
