...so what would happen if I said "Fractal Clockwork", and left out a shape?
A pile of gears made of gears made of gears?

You might get a clock or something that you're unable to tell anything about- no way to know where its top is, or if you're hodling it sideways, and trying to follow the hands leads you to infinitely look at the recursion?

I wanna test a combat system Idea I've considered.

I need two people. First two to make a character (Standard perplexicon part 2 rules) get it.

And to find/remember the part 2 rules.
Should be on the OP of the original Perplexicon game, right?

And I have a fetish for semicolons.
Oh good, I'm not the only one.

I wanna test a combat system Idea I've considered.
This may be a bit late, then, but:

Now, lately I've been thinking about counterspelling. As part of this rewrite of the system, I've been trying to make the combat less crap. Part of that being making spell vs spell combat be something other then "Roll Speed. If you win, you fire laser beams of bees at the other guy, if you lose, then fuck you."

You guys have any ideas?
I think this really comes down to what you want Speed to do and what you don't want it to do.

In your first idea, as noted, Speed is still broken at higher levels and can still be "you rolled low, fuck you" regardless.
In your second idea, whoever has lower Speed is automatically on the defensive.
In your third idea, whoever knows what they're up against, can replicate it, and does so is protected; everyone else is still fucked.

To me, none of those seem like attractive options, but that does depend on what Speed's supposed to be or do. I might scrap initiative rolls as a default feature and make opposed attribute rolls situational things, like using Speed to interrupt an enemy's spellcasting or Strength to do a DBZ/Harry Potter-style energy push, but I like hybrids and different build paths like that.

What about some sort of surveillance element that manifests as popcorn like substance? That way people can grab some 'popcorn' and watch from a safe dsitance? And you know, stalk people via popcorn.

You can use anything on there except for the Hazardous ones. Because we want this to last for more then a turn.

Now, how this works is that each round of combat you will have one Action and one reaction. Actions can be anything; moving around, casting spells, attempting to attack someone, etc. Reactions can also be anything, but they can only be done when you are the target of an action. There is no more passive dodging, it's an active reaction now. You'll probably figure this out more as we play.

You can't react unless he acts on you, ya nutter.

You should both just post actions and then react when you see who wins and what they do- if it effects you, that is. Otherwise you can't react.

Also tungsten carbide is pretty damn heavy and you have 0 str. Good luck with that.

Oh! I thought we posted a reaction to do if we got targeted.
