Do we have any clear idea that money will be useful at all in this place? Out of all reality, civilization tends to be in a rather extreme minority, but if the money has the potential to buy us rations... " " would not be satisfied with a follower who could not plan far enough ahead to keep from starving while deep in the horrors of this place. But for the moment...
Examine the "apparatus" carefully; what is it made of? What are its pieces shaped like?
The Everdeeps are a strange place - You have heard that most of the environments can reshape themselves, but rarely for someone exploring it. Yet, there are islands of stability, and places not quite within the Everdeeps. Merchants supposedly make their homes there, and other service industries, yes, rumor has it that small villages can be found if you're lucky. You're not quite certain how this all works out, but apparently, it does.
You look at the apparatus. You don't know what it could be made of - it's some dark, almost shadowy material, but whether it's metal, wood, rock, or something else entirely isn't clear. The moving parts you can see are rods and joints, arranged around a cube with a single opening, which can be closed with some sort of hatch.
