Can we make glass? Or electronics? Or, for that matter, do we have the infrastructure to assemble the robots once we get all the components?

A concrete wall is going to be faster, and you can't disable it with an EMP or clever exploitation of the AI. It's a wall--if you can't get through it, you're stuck. It's enough until we can get infrastructure up.

Once we have  the blueprints, the 3d printer should be able to do it yes. On a side note, we do have the robot blueprints. They cost 6 metal, and 2 electronics.

And his plan isn't to use a robot defensive force. He's saying that it might be more efficient to use our robots now to develop additional infrastructure to build more robots, so that we might build the wall faster later. Which would actually be quite soon. Though we need to reverse engineer some tools before we could truly increase production

So, combined action plan

Oh. I misunderstood his plan.

It would depend on the relative speed of wall-building and robot-making.

Best guess is about 3 turns.

Turn 1: Research electronics
Turn 2: Build electronics
Turn 3: Build robot

Meanwhile, we've been digging this ditch since the start of the game, and we're only 1/4 done.

Why do you think that each would take only 1 turn? And aren't the ores unsmelted at the moment?

...And how many robots do we have that could do each task?
And for that matter, why couldn't the clones oversee the design and creation of new robots, while the old ones continue work on fortifications?

I think the ores are smelting. As for the ditch, later we should use the ditch as the foundations for a compound wall. Until then it will just be an earthen berm.

Because that's generally how much turns each comparable action took?

The ores are smelting, see the little cubes, those are already processed ores.

We need one for smelting, 1 to operate the mass fabricator, and we have plenty of other tasks that need doing. Like wiring up our digging and drilling robots, and creating the pipeline infrastructure.

Turn 10
The Colony: (you might want to just follow this link instead since it's a big image: http://i.imgur.com/X7jlz1K.png)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You finish reverse engineering the laser rifle- (blueprint added)
-just in time to see one of your robots suffer a structural failure. Apparently these cheap frames can't handle much, you suppose this is what you get when you buy old office equipment. The damage doesn't look to serious so you can probably just re-attach the arm at the workshop.

You have Bailey start doing up blueprints for electronics.

One of the bots operates the manufacture module and hooks the Oil rig up. It should pump oil straight into the refiners tanks form now on.

It occurs to you that reloading the E-mag weapons will be a pain without spare magazines, it also occurs to you that these robots don't have anywhere to put spare magazines.

Is there a place where all the properties of the different metals and stuff are?

I was just about to put something in the glossary posts

EDIT: There you go. Those are probably all the raw metals. Alloys may show up later.

I also added a bunch of stuff on the technology of the setting. It should give you an idea of what you might run into/what you can eventually research.

Repair cheap robot

Do not care about magazines. Laser rifles use spare energy and don't require them.

There is a link right above the author notes in every update

Laser rifles need some source of energy to recharge. If you have small energy cells you basically end up with a magazine system.
