Dining Room issues
« on: April 03, 2007, 05:37:00 pm »

I have looked on the Wiki and elsewhere, and cannot find the answer to this.

For the dining room, Im unsure how I can arrange the tables and chairs.  The Wiki states: Ideally, chairs should not be adjacent to more than one table and tables should not be adjacent to more than one chair

So, does this mean that

code:

  C
 CTC
  C
and
  CCCCCCCC
 CTTTTTTTTC
  CCCCCCCC
Where C is Chair and T is Table

are not possible?
Am I supposed to place one chair at each table?

It's not that they are not possible, but it will give dwarfs the "not enough tables" or "not enough chairs" message. They can't figure out that the chair they sat in is facing the wrong way... (in the case of CTCT)

so ideally:

code:
  CCCCCCC
CTTTTTTTTTC
CTTTTTTTTTC
 CCCCCCC

or some similar variant.

My latest dining room looks like this:
code:

XXXXXXXXXX
X        X
XX CTTC XX
X  CTTC  X
XX CTTC XX
X  CTTC  X
XX CTTC XX
X  CTTC  X
XX CTTC XX
X  CTTC  X
XX CTTC XX
X        X
XXXXDDXXXX

X - Double engraved wall
 - Double engraved floor
T - Table
C - Chair
D - Door

Hearing that double engravings can only be on one side of a wall, I first enclosed the area so that all detailings would be on the inside, and then later on dug around the dining room to detail the corner stones from the outside for aesthetic purposes.

And you should see my statue garden

But what do I know?
Everything I say should be taken with atleast 1 tsp. of salt, and another liter of Dwarven Wine is recommended.

"I thought it was the size of the others!" said Vanon. "I guess it was just standing further away!"

The rule for tables and chairs is extremely simple: 1 table per chair.

Not totally true.

It's more like this:
don't let chairs be adjacent to more then one table, and don't let tables be adjacent to more then one chair (vertically or horizontally!).

cTc confuses dwarves.

TcT does too.

In one of my big forts forts my dining halls look like this:

code:

║╤╥Ω╥╤╤╥Ω╥╤║
║╤╥‼╥╤╤╥‼╥╤║
║╤╥Ω╥╤╤╥Ω╥╤║

║╤╥‼╥╤╤╥‼╥╤║
║╤╥╬╥╤╤╥╬╥╤║
║╤╥‼╥╤╤╥‼╥╤║
║╤╥Ω╥╤╤╥Ω╥╤║
║╤╥‼╥╤╤╥‼╥╤║
║╤╥Ω╥╤╤╥Ω╥╤║
║╤╥‼╥╤╤╥‼╥╤║
║╤╥Ω╥╤╤╥Ω╥╤║
╚═┼┼┼══┼┼┼═╝

Lined with high quality statues and animals in cages placed behind all the chairs just for fun. With this I don't even need rooms for anyone, they are estatic to admire statues and be comforted by animals in cages every time they eat a fantastic meal and dine in a legendary dining room. Its like a big happy thought factory. Not really necessary, but I like it  :)

Its a good place to put all the goblins and humans I captured, too. I even have the human king in one of the cages, stripped naked. Admittedly, I had to save/load a few times to get the king captured instead of killed. But its funny to have him in a cage.
