yeah but, Haspen, I would need some kind of "indicator" to show how much of a priority Spectros is for me.

I have been thinking about having a slider below the donation button, detailing how much is needed for priority to be number 1 and such.

But then I need to know what is okay and what is a rip-off...

no you aren't getting it.

Like, imagine at week 1, the donation amount is at 0 and the priority is at 3, which is my current "update when I feel like it" place.
Then someone donates 10 bucks and it pushes the priority to 2 where I update every other day.
Then with another 10 bucks it goes to priority 1 and I update daily.
then at week 2, the amount goes back to 0 again on the bar showing it, resetting the priority.

Basically, the money would keep the interest flowing...

huh, well one person wants to donate, thats neat.

Some questions then, NES:

  • What would you say would be the "worth" of an update, like, how much should be donated for me to prioritize working on this above all else?
  • For how long would that priority keep going to keep it fair? A week? A month?
  • The submit-box is actually pretty hard to pull off, so I am thinking that what if this thread became the submit box if I focus on having it on Dexworks, and then just note in here when there is an update with the first image in the update?

  • Worth? Name your price, you are the one doing the comic.
  • Daily priority should last a month for every $30-$50 I guess.
  • The forums could work as a submit box until you can purchase a big 'ol server for the submit box. If it's a matter of people spamming, you could use Facebook login API. But an onsite submit box should be a goal.
  • Why not a kickstarter? I would back this. I would get people to back this. I'd spam everyone I know to back this. A kickstarter would help to define your primary and stretch goals, create a donor reward system, and provide updates on progress. If you were to go through with this, an onsite submit box and print copies fit nicely as a stretch goal.

The idea of donating adding to the 'interest bar' - to be honest, I don't think you should force yourself to update. Your stuff is really interesting and unique - I don't think forcing it too much would be good.

For suggestions, the forums you started in on are good enough. Helps attract more people as well. Without advertisements or the massive internet fame of Hussie, people might not notice new IPs of yours if they're self contained on your website. Helps save space on your server as well, so it's cheaper for you.

This is unrelated to Spectros, but Dex, out of the stuff on your website, which stuff is still going on? Read the prologue of Derelict Dreams and was pretty impressed.

Derelect dreams started on this forum, but due to the mechanics of the game invited far too much metagame stupidity on the players part, and thus it ended.

I think pretty much everything is dead, really. Most of them started and ended on the MSPA forums.

Dermonster is right. Basically all of the website is considered "dead" by this point. Either I lost interest because the idea came from my younger less experienced self or shit whent down in it that soured it for me.

It s a graveyard of my ideas... Sorry.

Sorry for double post but:

I have discussed it with a friend and gotten something stuck together:

There will be a priority based "pool" of funds. I will make an image that showcases the amount donated for that week that is always visible on the pages.
At 0 USD, it will be at priority 3, where I just update whenever.
At 25 USD it will shift to priority 2 where I update semi-daily, as in every other day.
At 50 USD, it will shift to Priority 1 where I update daily.

If we exceed the 50 USD, the excess will spill into the next week up to the max point of 25 USD (or Priority 2), starting the week at priority 2.
This means if 64 dollars were donated at week 1, week 2 would start off with 14 dollars, landing us in priority 3.
If 78 dollars were donated at week 1, week 2 would start off at 25 dollars, even though it should spill over 28 dollars. This would be to ensure a steady flow, and thus interest from my end.

Does this seem logical to you guys?

  • Donations go towards print copies of this glorious endeavor.

Seems kinda silly. I mean, that defeats the point of an artist donation if it's just for merchandising's sake :v

How many donations do you expect to get? I assume you have a job on top of what you'd make from donations.
Do you have a tracker of how many visitors your site gets? If there's enough you could think of putting up some ads, though they'd preferably be small. I think Project Wonderful and the like link to other webcomics and are rather unobtrusive, and that could be money towards the interest fund.

@Giglamesh: I know at least 1000 unique IP's visit my site on a monthly basis. I have tried to have Project Wonderful, but it reacts so little that there is little to no reason to have it right now. I would need more people to visit to have that be viable again...

Also I have no job on the side. This is literally the only income I have. I know, I suck.

Maybe I should change the rates to 15 and 30... Or maybe 10 and 20...

Oh who am I kidding, my shit isn't worth the time it is made out of. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

Hey, now. Your stuff is great. Just read back along this thread:
Oh. Ok. Well, look after yourself as a priority. This had great potential.

A lot of creative people on these forums seem to have depression, so don't worry - you're not alone.

Seriously though, this game is awesome and you can be proud of having made it; I for one could never produce art of such a high quality (Sadface here), much less so quickly and consistently. Hope you're feeling better soon, personally speaking losing the ability to write is about the worst part of depression.
Man, this game was so completely awesome. It's sad to see it go. If you get to feeling better, and feel creative about this idea again, please have a go at it again! This is by far one of my favorite games I've ever read, and the art style makes me feel inferior.

I hope you get to feeling better, you have a massive amount of talent, and you should be proud as heck of it.
I'd be up for donation. But there is a catch. The following must happen:

  • Dex continues to develop this universe.
  • Dex makes this into a fully-fledged web-series, with submit box for suggestions and its own page on Dexworks. In fact, front page updates of Dexworks.
  • The Bay12 saga becomes Chapter 0 of this saga.
  • Donations go towards print copies of this glorious endeavor.
  • This becomes better than Homestuck ever was. (This is the easiest part, you are already there!)

It's not just me who think's its good: your art is better than anything i've ever produced. Only very few webcomics can support themselves (sluggy freelance, girl genius) and most of those make a good deal from merchandise.

Gee whiz I'm late to the party...

To be frankly honest, there's only one person I know of that does a webcomic and yet still manages to stay afloat.  Andrew Hussie.  And I'm pretty sure all of us know why.

Continuing to be frankly honest, while I'm all for this idea (at original 25-50 level)...

Alright after rough discussions with myself I will get to uploading all of Spectros to my website, give it its own area and such and all that hoohah.

I will also set up this system and an explanation page. I will tell you all when it is ready.
