The Dark Forest: Cold Depths
« on: August 12, 2013, 01:01:07 am »

Welcome to Blackwood

Welcome to the dark and mysterious realm of Blackwood Forest, a mysterious dimension of darkness and insanity. Your party has been whisked away from your homes to this dark place. You are lost, confused. The air is cold, the harsh winds blow with malignant voices. The sky is ever bleak and black, and the growls and the barks and the screams further the desolation of the Mad Realm. Legends held that this place has no means of escape, that you are doomed to a life of survival and fear. But they are just legends.

The realm is ripe with conjury and augury, and witch-powers are enhanced. Nightmarish creatures and fiends stalk the night, and it is always night. Your goal in this game is to find a means to survive, or find a way out. Both paths are equally dangerous, and teamwork is a necessity for survival. Myths of people being carried to this dark land to be killed or used as playthings for the vile entities that prowl the land. You must survive.

(I will use various pictures from Google to show the various things. They won't be mine, so I don't take any credit, but once I get that graphics tablet I've been saving for I'll try to draw my own.)

I'm super game.

Name: Hector Colt
Sex: Male
Age: 25
Occupation: Gong Farmer (+10 to Wil, mental fortitude and endurance is important for such a job! IT BUILDS CHARACTER.)
Backstory: Hector was never good at much, at least not much that could put food on the table. He was a quiet one, and tended to keep to himself and only worry about himself, and to hell with what other people thought of him. The life of a soldier was always there, but risking his neck for a smarmy lord never appealed very much either. His vocation was a simple yet crucially important one - he cleaned up dung. He didn't mind it much, given that it was a surprisingly well-paying job, and most people left him alone which was more than fine by him. Sure, it's a dirty job with mounds of health problems, but you get used to it.
Appearance: Hector doesn't stand out very much. 5'8" and a moderately built frame, with curly brown hair, blue eyes, and a bit of stubble. His weight and bulk is average, and he dresses in a normal beige tunic.

Skills:
WS 20 + 10 = 30

Incompatibilities:

Name: Jacquelyn Delahaye
Sex: Female
Age: 24
Occupation: Pirate (+10 to Strong)
Backstory: Jacquelyn Delahaye was born in France-the illegitimate, yet loved daughter of a well off merchant ship captain Argen Delahaye, she spent most of her youth on his ship, the Fisherhawk, learning to sail during his expeditions around the coast of Europe and further afar-she was shunned by the rest of her family for the implications of her birth, she found peace and purpose, on the sea-in this way, her father could keep her around. When she was 18, the world flipped-a month in the Doldrums caused a mutiny, and she could only watch as her father was tossed into the sea by his own men. She was chained in the hold of the ship, no doubt awaiting an unkind fate-for the mutinous crew had set their sights on the new world, where her youth would fetch a decent price as a slave.

Fortune interceded, though, in an odd fashion-an English pirate vessel caught sight and boarded the traitorous ship. They foolishly decided to fight, and Jacquelyn would hear the thumps of bodies hitting the deck not long after. And yet, when the pirates found their pretty prize in the hold, it was doubtful her fate would have been much different than with the mutineers-had she not stolen a knife from the belt of a careless sailor and removed his left ear.

Such an act endeared her to the crew, such as it was, and they allowed her to join-in essence, adopting her into their own family. Her new vessel was the Silverfish, a name she considered telling. It would take several years to rise above the rank of 'cabin girl'-and more than a few removed ears to fend off hungry men-but, Jacquelyn was driven and dedicated. She had no home to go back to, and found the freedom of piracy a liberating existence. She never wanted to step foot on land again.

In her 24th year, Jacquelyn is completely and without remorse, a pirate-raiding, looting, and pillaging as the situation demands-she always makes a habit of being on the frontline of any action. The crew likes to imagine her as a good luck charm-the reversal of the usual notion-and she thinks of them as close to family as she will ever have.

Appearance: A short, well built woman with visible muscles, tanned skin and a short, dark black hair-she's about 5 feet and 140 pounds. She has pale, slightly luminous sea-blue eyes. Her build is athletic and tough, and her skin is dark, yet light enough that her French-Caribbean heritage is evident. She has a spray of sun bleached dimples across the bridge of her nose. Her hands are calloused and covered in tough old scars. A stark black tattoo of a leaping shark is embraced on her right shoulder. Jacquelyn has a medium sized chest, and is all in all, fairly well defined and desirable by the standards of her time.

Skills: (All of them start at 20, and you have 100 points to add to them. Your bonus is the tens digit of the skill, ie. 34 has a bonus of 3)
WS 20+20=40
BS 20
S 20+20+10=50
T 20+30=50
Per 20
Int 20-10=10
Fel 20
Wil 20+30=50

Affinity: (Select an affinity and an incompatibility. For every two incompatibility, you gain an extra affinity. You gain affinities and incompatibilities along the way)
Swordswoman [Gain a +10 to WS when rolling with swords in combat)

Incompatibilities:
Ignoramus (Animals/Natural World)

Inventory:
Clothes
Sleek and seaworn blue coat, leather studded slacks, a sturdy pair of boots and a blue bandanna atop her head. It's comfortable, well worn and designed to mask her femininity rather than revel in it. She wears a golden hoop earring in her left ear.

Sword [2d6+WS bonus damage]
A short and deadly cutlass with a notch in the end of the blade, and a tarnished copper crossguard. Designed less for elegant parries and more for quick draws and brutal slashing cuts.

Bronze gauntlets [Block 1d3+T bonus damage for each arm]
Thick bronze gloves, with leather fingertips-judging by the design, she stole them from an Englishmen.

Salted Fish Meal
A strip of fish meat so salted as to be nearly inedible.

Leather Waterskin (Filled with Spiced Rum)
A heavy leather pouch made to carry liquid. Currently filled with a fiery alcoholic imbibement pirates use to hype themselves up for bloodshed, if it doesn't strike them blind first.

Name: Amelia L. Aguilon
Sex: Female
Age: 25
Occupation: Fencer (+10 to Per)
Backstory:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Appearance: A lean woman of slender build, she stands to the height of 5'4". Her black hair is shoulder-length, kept commonly in a ponytail and her irises are dark brown in color. Her skin is of a light complexion and, by what others have said about her, her face is well-defined, complementing her features.

Skills:
WS 20 +30 /-10 = 50/40
BS 20 /-10 = 20/10
S 20  +10 = 30
T 20  +10 = 30
Per 20 +10 +30 = 60
Int 20 +10 +10 = 30
Fel 20 +10 = 30
Wil 20 = 20

Affinity:
Scholar [Gain a +10 to Int; Philosophy]

Incompatibilities:
Pacifist [Gain a -10 to WS or BS when using melee or ranged weapons respectively]

Inventory:
Clothes/ A simple mix of what men would commonly wear in most areas make up this set: a chemise, kirtle with a surcoat topping it off, falling to about ankle height to name a few, it was an ensemble made to ensure comfort and warmth as well as function for everyday use.

High-cut Boots/ Taken out of its technical term, these boots are fitted and padded under the skin so as to provide full covering for the foot, heel and ankle as well as the lower portion of the thigh without sacrificing mobility.

Two-Handed Saber [2d6+WS bonus damage]/ The two-handed saber is an often overlooked weapon. These swords have similar proportions to typical longswords, though single-edged. The structure and make of the weapon-seemingly a hybrid of both-employs the use of the thick spine for deflection and it's whole weight being placed on the edge, for precise strikes.

Copper breastplate [Block 1d6+T bonus damage]/ Fully covering the torso, it confers protection in the most practical sense.

Quesadillas/ A flour tortilla filled with a savory mixture containing cheese, other ingredients, and/or vegetables, then folded in half to form a crescent. It is personally considered a sublime dish.

Chain-bound Diary/ "Notes and written words would keep any memory in check." - You see a tome, sturdy and filled with reams of paper. It is somehow light and easy to carry despite its appearance.

Yeah, but I'm banking on at least one of two things:

1. Combat mentions that when you die, you're replaced. So presumably there'll be a waitlist, and I'd think it'd consist of more people sucked into the Nightmare Realm.

2. Sometimes people will reserve and then never get sheets up. Sometimes GMs will be ready to start when this happens, and thus skip them. :3

I'm not generally going to pick the players first-come-first-served. I'll pick the most interesting or if I can't make my mind I'll randomly roll. I'll probably start in a few hours, or later if you want me to wait.

1. Yeah, there's a waitlist. I'm not going to fudge rolls, so expect to die once in a while.

2. I'm kinda glad there's a lot of people interested. I might bump up the player count to 8 if you guys want me to. Do you want two extra players? That might mean I'll take longer to write the turns, though.

Everyone's sheets seem good so far. @Gamerlord, you can add an extra affinity if you want. 2 incompatibilities grants another affinity.
