If you mean making it so a civ recognizes creature X as Domesticated, allowing future embarks from that civ to bring the creature along, now that would be interesting.

Yes, exactly. Not simply on a fortress level, but across the entire civilization.

Has anybody ever explored the bottom of the ocean using a non-breathing character and somehow stopping the ocean from freezing?

How about some more research into causing necro towers to appear. Some maps end up with tons, others not so many. Controlling it more effectively could prove fun. There's some general stuff dealing with age of world and such but nothing precise.

I would love it if you tested line-of-sight through floor grates (and bars). Wiki says they don't block LOS, my experience says otherwise.

giant sperm whales corpses has a weapon causes most creatures around human size to go flying kinda like the old days when maces and warhammers could send things into the next embark tiles or 3 although not a large scale though so no duplicating things like morul smacking something 155 main tiles away instead you only get like 5-7 tiles max in a straight line and you only can get them to go farther if you knock them into lower Z-levels.

someone needs give this effect to maces and warhammers.

Finding the item weight where the added mass behind the blow gets overcome by the user's inability to swing the weapon effectively.   I did some psudo-science with that once and found the point to be absurdly high, like heavier than an elephant high.  Though it seems to be lighter than a sperm whale because when I had my tester swing that they did nothing but dent skin.  But I never got farther than that.   Char Strength and size likely has an effect too.

Is there a point where object weight negatively effects the distance it can be thrown or do they all travel the same distance?

Trap components as weapons.  I've had a history of having my adventurers raid fortresses for giant serrated disks to throw, but awesomeness of throwing ninja stars as large as yer character aside, what is the most effective thrown trap component?  How about best thrown 'miscellaneous object' period?
