Divergence: Online - Now on Kickstarter.
« on: August 09, 2013, 10:51:56 am »

A few months ago (See March...) I posted this.
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=123492.msg4071433#msg4071433

This was about an MMORPG looking for Funding via Indiegogo. Now regardless of if you all paid any mind to it or not, the thing got funded and now its back again with Kickstarter with more on offer then before...
Sorry I ain't in the mood to post up any information myself atm, but its all there to check out yourself. Though I may change around this OP when I can get my head more awake :P

ANYWAY...
Check out the Kickstarter...!!!

TBH I thought they didn't before, but apparently they did. But to me that was more of a,
"This game we want to make, but can't truely start with some capital for the cost of funding the Crew."

The Kickstarter is...
"We have been making this game, we are looking to you to help make it better/improve/finish."

Even then, its not alot of cash that is being asked for...

Kickstarter is starting to become a money-making business itself. Pitch something fun and believable and have people donate. Live on the money for a while and then continue to ask for money. Crowd funding is great, but allows for a lot of bad practices that will only get worse if companies like this one keep getting funded.

Woah, excuse me, there is a game made here. They currently have done the Pre-Alpha and stuff soon to be Alpha...
Neither of the two events, Indiegogo and this Kickstarter are designed to be a money grab in any way, both are only $15000 goal, each miniscule to those of larger games suggested out there, the money is also aimed towards that of funding the team in the way of artists and programmers. Indiegogo was started as like I said, a Capital Setup fund, a way for the creater to start the game's full creation and such. Kickstarter is also a great method of getting a game known and seen by people so its not something that isn't fully used just to find funds...
I know a couple of people I have been playing other games with who have been in one of the PreAlpha events, they can't fully talk about it cause of some minor NDAs on it I believe, but there is countless amounts of show of an actual game made...

Not accusing this group of anything, but I personally find attempting to raise funds multiple times (if prior attempts are successful) for the same project to be distasteful. Along the lines of 'Why wasn't the first round enough?'

Specific to this project... there seems to be a lack of concrete info on what exactly they want funds for: "The focus of this campaign is to allow us to hire on the additional staff required to take this game from an alpha prototype to a fully-launched title." is the most specific thing, but some details as to what the rough edges are, etc. would be nice.

Pretty videos though.

YES! I have my first outright perfect example of the kickstarter Fill in the Blanks Feature!

Quote
•Projectiles have mass and momentum. You have mass. All objects have mass and almost all objects can be destructible. What does this mean? Use you imagination

There you go! Now you might be asking yourself "Well that is straight forward" but no it really isn't. Destructible can disappear, fragment, dissolve. It is genius in that it makes you fill in the best possible outcome without actually saying it will happen, because it won't.

I read that to mean 'You are an object, and you are destructible.' on my first pass. And subsequent few, actually.

I wouldn't honestly have a problem with this..if they explained where the money went, why they need more, etc. They're way too vague on that stuff.
