So just found this bit of info. Little confused with how cap ships work now, maybe you dock on them and then it's like that ? If so that would be cool.

4. They have plans to make direct capital ship controls like in Battlecruiser Command/Nexus: Jupiter Accident/Imperium Galactica etc. But that's very vague plans and if there is any progress yet is unknown (for me).

I am holding off Rome 2 because I will just get the GoTY Edition with all DLCs.

In the same vein, any word on possible pre-order bonuses except for the $5 off? I'm on the fence about it but realize it probably won't be any cheaper on the holiday sale than it is now.

Not really, but it's quite probable they might add quite a lot of free content. They haven't released a single paid DLC yet, and I don't think they're going to. Not that kind of company.

Besides, they rely on the community to supply some of the additional content.

I certainly cannot wait! Still wondering how they are going to handle fleet mechanics and other things...  Are they completely removing warp gates and using the "Highways" or are those just in system?

The preorder bonus will be a horrendous amount of bugs to begin with and 15$ extra paid compared to the price 5 months later, like any x game before.

All jump gates stopped working, and will be offline. (At least, for the first part of the game, who can tell what happened in the plot.)

The game basically takes place in a single, continuus giant system, with the highways serving as high speed transfer between point of interest.

according to the description of the game in the official page, there's a quote that says "the supernova changed everything". what i think is that a supernova in a nearby system caused a completed disruption of the highways (note that i've never EVER, played an X series game, maybe i'll play this once it gets released).

I don't believe it is just in one system, they talk about having several different types of highway for how far out you will be traveling

Well warpgates might not work but there are still jumpdrives here and there so i assume X4 becomes more "Elite" like with scattered star systems traversable by craft with jumpdrives... hell following the games tradition of constant technological progress it's possible to assume the Teladi got their greedy hands on a jumpdrive and in true teladi fashion they reverse engineered it and started raking in the PROFITSSSSssss making jumpdrives a hell of a lot more accesible to the point JDs are standard equipement on most ships... if a bit dangerous due to the general kinks of performing unfocused jumps.

And the highways... well guess systemas will have several "subsystems" akin to the terran sectors from TC and AP (connected by accelerators that couldn't be used by jumpdrives due to... not being warpgates).
