I'd imagine it would be like Star Shatter (a very underrated game)

The main reason I liked piloting my capital ships is that I didn't trust the AI to respond correctly to unpredictable situations. I once sent a large freighter across 3 peaceful sectors to deliver a product. 3 sectors which had always been peaceful and never had problems, and even had several of my ships escorting.

Apparently as it warped in, a xenon force attacked the sector. Rather than flee, it kept plodding right towards the gate until it was shot by which time it was too far to escape. I got there for the tail end, having been alerted by the 'xxx ship is under fire' message. Just in time to watch a multi-million dollar investment go up in smoke because the AI can't go "Oh look Xenon are at that gate, better not go that way."

I am hoping captaining a capital ship will be in the same fashion as in Silent Hunter.

I could absolutely live with this! I keep going back to SH IV :)

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Sorry for the potential derail, but I'm interested in Star Shatter now. Is it open-ended or scripted/linear? I read it has dynamic missions?

Napalm is great if you enjoy hot and spicy foods. I personally enjoy some liquid nitrogen.

There is a campaign, but depending how the campaign goes, the mission will adapt the new needs. Some mission are on rail, wich always happens no matter what, such as the *clear mine field* at start and some others. But all in all, yeah mission are dynamic.

There is some good mods too, i found a decent BSG mod. Some other are more in dept campaign etc.

X-Rebirth now available for preorder at the Egosoft Shop or on Steam. Currently cheaper on Steam.

I dunno about outside the UK, but Zavvi has it cheaper than either by a fair margin... and slightly cheaper still if bought from ZavviOutlet via Play.com (£25 vs Steam's £36 and Egosoft's ~£38).

(I'd not take the risk of a pre-order at Steam's price, but for £25 I'm kinda tempted...)

To preorder or not to preorder? That is the question.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Is there any incentive to preorder? I'll be honest, I'm easily swayed by goodies.

Doesn't look like there's any goodies, just a discount off the RRP.

Well, the egosoft shop gives you a "bonus X Rebirth soundtrack" that's available for download immediately on preordering.  But it's also the most expensive place to buy it, so you'd have to *really* like the soundtrack.

I am tempted to pre-order cos I've been waiting for this game since it was announced and I'd like to support Egosoft (for what it's worth, X2: the Threat was still one of the games that defined my childhood). Oh well 3 more months before I am forced to make a decision.

PTW

I have all of X3, and I sorta found it a bit skinner box-ish after a while, but I think that was because I had to restart a couple of times :P
Looking forward to the new X, even though its out my price range until I save up..
