As a back-up to Trowah's Kerbal's Flight, Robert Kerman, will launch 2 Trench class rocket's.

He will also organize a Goodbye party on a field near KSP's launch tower, shortly before the Trench rocket's launch. Everyone is invited.*

Robert Kerman was in a bad mood. He, KN's most successful engineer, was being retired in favour of whom? The current generation of Kerbalnauts was hardly worth the air they were breathing.

*Party takes place during Trowah's flight, so he probably can't come.

Spoiler: Robert Kerman Junior (click to show/hide)

Well I suppose that one guys notes didn't help much. Or at all.
{3} - Robert von Kerman works out the design for a slightly more efficient, yet grossly unstable, fuel.
They were nearly catastrophically unhelpful.

...Not much point to the Trench, then, is there?
You're less likely to die from it.

Draw up blueprints for Superior Drop Fuel Tanks. ((should give a bonus next turn if successful, right?))
PROBABLY!
Oh, and what exactly does specialisation do? Does it require an entire turn to train?
+1 to design rolls over {1} of type Y, and yes.

How much less likely, and how do these things work again?

Weeellll ... Using all your fuel, in a plane not designed to leave the atmosphere, you have a better than even chance of putting the satellite into a position it can reach orbit from. Only an act of utter incompetence could kill you while remotely launching the Trench-I. ((I had intended for you guys to have a dedicated launch vehicle by now. The KR-13 series was supposed to be more of a "Look, you have something! You're not starting completely from scratch!" thing, and a chance for kerbalnauts to do something without a penalty for the first few turns.))

Mostly, you'll get multiple rolls for flights. For this, you'd have the launch, the post-deployment and then the payload getting into position.
I'll be softly interpreting the flight rolls, rather than using a table. The factors will mostly be control, integrity, safety, vehicle condition, kerbalnaut experience (Flying a practice launch every turn does help somewhat, especially if you're doing something relevant to the planned mission), and KSP experience.

The kind that died every time we tried to make a DEDICATED LAUNCH VEHICLE.

What kind of excuse is that?

A very good one, actually.

...We don't have any spacecraft? WHAT KIND OF SPACE PROGRAM ARE WE, HUH?
The best kind.

((Also, if it wasn't clear, you can get most parts from the military or civilians if they should reasonably have them [like drop tanks],but you'll be better off with KSP-built modules. [No, they don't have any vehicles better for spaceflight than the KR-13 series.]))

This was a fun game. I'll give it a final bump, just in case.

((Woops, missed an update. Hope springs eternal?))

Try to refine the fuel use of the A1 to produce the more efficient A2 Kerblore Small Liquid Fuel Engine.

{1} - Trowah drives twenty miles away from the base with his radio transmitter, and the launch sequence for the first Trench-1 occurs on schedule. There is an unfortunate failure during the flight, and it arcs towards him. Debris is scattered for a few miles, and Trowah is fatally struck by stray pieces of spy instruments.

{2}-1=1 - Kirram follows Kirrom's notes exactly. EMTs are soon amazed as he died in exactly the same way as his predecessor.

{1}-1=0 - Jeoff II struggles to come up with a drop fuel tank design, and wastes several pieces of paper. One of them gets caught in a heating vent, unnoticed. Jeoff II is later found dead from food poisoning.

{6} - K. Kerber vastly improves on the old fuel, making it 25% more efficient. KSP will be able to make use of it after it builds a new fuel enhancement facility.

{3} - Alarin creates a slightly more efficient engine, the A2. It is much flimsier, and more likely to explode if the pilot tries any quick maneuvers.

{4} - Robert has two more Trench-1s built, pulling in favors with the base commander [who then gets a small loan], and has a simultaneous launch for both. Nearly everyone in the base gathers for a party at the launch pad, entranced by the promise of victory brownies. While wondering where Robert and his team are, and enjoying the brownies, someone starts the launch sequence. Both rockets explode on the launch pad. The entire base is destroyed, as well as everyone at the party.

KSP is eventually restarted, but by then the KN have already hit the Mun with a probe. One day, an unknown alien craft appears in orbit and begins repeatedly radioing the same message across the planet. It takes nearly a year before someone deciphers it:

"ATTENTION MEATFORMS. THE UNIVERSE IS A HOVERCRAFT PLACE. SURVIVE MY FRIENDLY EXCHANGE OF UNKIND WORDS AND FACE EVEN MORE HOVERCRAFT AS THE <UNTRANSLATABLE> AWAKES. FAIL AND ANOTHER RACE WILL SURVIVE TO BE TESTED."

A few weeks later, a large asteroid is spotted on a direct course with the planet. Being Kerbals, they attempt to save themselves by firing nuclear weapons at it. This does not save them.

((Sorry. I fully intended for this to live long enough to fight the robots. I'm just having too much trouble motivating myself to update frequently enough.))

That didn't go as intended.

Still, I lived. For a while. They should never 've retired me.
