Wartorn (The lone isle SG)
« on: August 07, 2013, 04:38:47 pm »

Things are stirring. Both in the light, and in the darkness. Some see this as a sign, and others as a threat. Both sides see it as a reason to march.
You stand before the ruler of the Central City as she pins the badge to your chest, signifying your new rank as a general. Your orders stand as follows - to stand against the enemies of the city in the southern continent, and to seek to end the danger there. Simple orders, for a complex task, by the queen’s own admission. She hands you a bag of 200 crowns, each worth a hundred gold pieces, and bids you good luck. Your ship, the Windeater, departs in a week, and you have until then to purchase whatever men you may need, besides the 2 squads of royal guards assigned to you.
In another moment, you have been whirled away to the palace steps, looking out over the city. Your men stand before you, each pledged to serve first the queen, and secondly yourself. All distinguished, but none yet truly remarkable. Two of each race, the graceful and peaceful Mira, the honourable but warlike Orcs, the stalwart Dwarves and the ever changing Men. A race for each point of the compass, and between them all each a race. The Trolls, between the Mira and Dwarves, endurance unlimited and flesh self-sealing. Between Dwarves and Orcs, the Ogres, living battering rams, prone to savage rages. Elves, fierce in defense of their homes, between Men and the Mira, and Drow, of Men and Orcs, notorious for their ability at thievery and assassination. Unfortunately the mix leaves each races quirks buried in the guards.
In gleaming arms and armour, the light bounces back off them to the city whole, stepped into the side of the mountain. In the houses there live the most varied people on the whole isle, all kinds working all professions. The barracks stands out on the second terrace, and as you begin your walk there, you begin to think back.

Who are you? What do you look like? What race are you? And how did you come to be here.

We are a Dwarf, one of the clan called either "The Tall Ones" or "*insert expletive of your choice here*", depending on the speaker. Our name is Domas TeaFortifications. We are tall for our great race (about five foot four), with rather wild black hair arranged as neatly as we can by clubbing it. Our clan has been all but destroyed and in your youth you where sent to join our grand naval units (mostly for our protection) where we spent the next twenty-odd years working in icebreakers, both before the mast and behind it. We where called for this task for our bravery, mechanical skill and habit of capturing enemy ships far larger than us, in size as well as manpower.

PTW I am interested, but  unless unusual races are allowed, I am not gonna help with character gen (I always do well, mostly a werewolf type thing, lets face it), if I am allowed to do that, SLASH character is genned then I will participate

You really can both sig it.
But... That would break the laws of sigging! We can't have everyone running around with the same quotes. IT MAKES THEM UNFUNNY FASTER!

FAKEEDIT: Okay maybe I will. Gimme a sec.

(Don't know why I'm using a lot of we, probably cause the 1st poster did)

We are a young wolfman, who was raised by dwarves, of the clan Fellhammer, widely known as the most batshit crazy berzerkers that the entire nation has access to.  What we are called cannot be spoken by a human tongue, but translates into Goblinflayer, a rather tame name by the Fellhammer standards. We are here because we needed to get out of the mountainhold for a while, and this was an excellent opportunity to do so, while almost guaranteeing a fight either with the foes or between the disparate forces here, we honestly don't care.

You look back on your life as you walk. The Goblinflayer, they called you back in the Fellhammer clan, renowned among dwarves for their berserker rages. You were one of the clan chiefs - the wolf. Along with your companions, the snake, the bear, and the turtle, you led the clan through great trials.
Then came the unification of the tribes. Displaced by the great king Hrun, forgotten by your people, you turned to the oceans to drown your sorrows. Working on the great icebreakers in the north, you rose back up through the ranks. When you captured a ship of the Men of Vardus, with it’s full complement of 200 men, with just the 20 crew of your ship, you were called before the king himself.
In the great hall, lined with alcoves for statues of the kings, and ending in the throne, the snake bid you kneel. He stood beside the king, having betrayed the clan to the empire, for his own personal power. And as he bid you kneel yet again, you turned and walked from the city of Bastion, down through the markets, straight to the docks. No guards followed.
You boarded the first ship out. A ship travelling to Central City, to receive a shipment of cloth for the king. Your payment was in the form of acting as an escort, your wolf tattoos as proof of your prowess. Yet when you docked there awaited a party on the harbour, besides the ragged group of adventurers seeking passage. This party was dressed in gleaming crimson and red, and they knelt before you, like your clan of old.
Then their ranks parted, and between them passed a single soldier, clearly their leader. he knelt, like the others, and you asked him to rise, and to take you where he clearly intended to lead you. he did as you requested, and then you stood before the queen. She had heard of your exploits, and your strength, and offered you the chance to fight yet again, honourably. How could you not agree?
 -----
You ponder your next move then. This city held all manner of soldiers and peoples, from dwarven golems, to orcish shamans and elvish archers.
What kinds of units would you prefer to recruit?

Mostly ranged with light armor, preference towards dwarves?

Also, I have no idea why I used so much "we".

oh, and sappers. Sappers are nice.

We also want Pikes, probably Humans, TO deal with cavalry, and some dwarven shock troopers to keep the ranged units safe

Pushing open the doors to the barracks you are greeted by a vibrant medley of races and uniforms, from brass plate armour to cobalt robes. Most look up as you enter, and one rises to his feet from a dice table in the corner, a drow.
‘General. How good to meet yet another of you.’ He flicks off a mocking smile. ‘The name’s Rylath. I’m after a bit of a scrap. Care to oblige me and let me join you? but pardon my manners. Why not have a look round first?’
You take that suggestion gratefully, seeking out a number of units to fit the roles you decided on.

‘Decided, sir? Or would you rather look further?’

(( 200 C is what you have. ship, supplies etc... are provided, at least for now. Don't worry about the low budget. You are able to convince enemies to join you, make new allies etc...., and gold should be fairly plentiful.))

((Also, a note on blocking - each round a unit can block rather than attack - that is, actively prevent the motion of nearby units around them, rather than attempt to inflict damage. the block tag means they do this passively in addition to an attack.))
