TopHat why would you do that? Your Surplus Food is converted into Silver at a rate of 1 Food = 1 Silver. If you have a bad harvest you buy food at a rate of 1 Silver per 1 Food, so spreserving food is useless, although you can do it if you want, do it as custom action.

And yeah you had some incredibly terrible rolls i mean rolling a 1 three times in a row at Farming is bound to get devastating. Going from Year 6 to 10 you had no roll better than a 2...all that kept your family alive was the Farming Skill.

What happens when a players family dies out? Does another player take over an NPC family?

Ghazkull - you mentioned something about that being dependent on the economy in the OP. I assumed that that meant that the price of food would vary, although I can see on re-reading it that it probably refers to something else.

Also realised that the 35-year-max for having babies limit means I'm going to have to modify the schedule a bit...

Why not volunteer for exploration, help the village, earn some cash and help your family at the same time? Depending on how many actually go (and how many families we have), I expect every person going to get at least 5, maybe even 10 silver.

That's weird, right? I always thought IRL people lost fertility around the age 45-55.

Turn 2: Year 11 - 20
((New Rule: A Single Person can only attend 4 Fields at any given time))

Stafalint Family
((Seriously? 3 Sixes in a row? i should change away from random.org)

The Stafalint Family prospers in the following years and mightily so. Although the Thirdboy is born sickly Olaf makes up more for that. Strong as an Ox he helps the family as good as he can and years of unprecedented good Harvests following Olaf develops quite the Knack for Farming along with Astrid, who is oddly enough picking up some tricks from her son.

Meanwhile Rolf is sent to his Blacksmith Apprenticeship for which the Stafalints have to pay dearly. The Blacksmith has to be bribed to take in the Sickly Boy and tools and equipment has to be bought from a roving trader since the Blacksmith has only one set of tools. All in all this amounts to 1 Gold, plus 2 Silver anually to pay the fare for Rolf.

Despite the outrageous price the Stafalints have grown to be the richest family in Finsterforst and one with the largest fields, if they want they could even buy animals and more so some Farmhands since Olaf and Astrid barely manage to keep the fields attended themselves. A new housee might be practical too especially since its getting cramped in the small hovel and the yet unnamed little boy is not really growing up in a healthy household.

Bern Family
((i took the freedom of changing the rent to helping on the farms when the point was reached where your dude couldn't handle the fields alone anymore))

The Bern family prospered greatly and has become one of the largest landholders in Finsterforst. It has become so much land that they have hired two farmhands while Ballard builds new Hosues to rent. Indeed they even have the most real estate. All in all 3 Families live on their property, the Torvalds and the Yerrins both of which one family member works as farmhand and the Hortwins who clear a field every year. On top of that the Berns have grown rich. Propably even richer than the Stafalinds...

Spoiler:  Bern Family (click to show/hide)

Feuerberch Family

What started out as bad luck for Nathaniel grow even worse. In their Twelfth year he awoke to find his wife hanging from the rafters. Despite all this he continued, clearing land, farming and in the Ninth Year Logging. While he barely sustained himself with the farming, he soon found out that he was a skilled Lumberjack  and vented his anger and depression and his hate on the Gods on the Forest. In two years he made 15 Silverpieces alone by logging. Now Nathaniel is alone and quite wealthy for the Standards of Finsterforst. He has gotten several offers for Marriage:

Ygritte(18) - Hunting 1, Dowry: 10 Silverpieces
Cersei(40) - Weaving 1, Dowry: 25 Silver Pieces and a Cow
Rembertha(25) - Dowry: 5 Acres of Land

Spoiler:  Feuerberch Family (click to show/hide)

Erliwin Family

Where others prosper the Erliwins barely pull through. Almost starving while trying to pay for the apprenticeship for Brythwyn their Third Son born in the 16th Year dies one night due to sheer hunger. After his 5 year Apprenticeship Brythwyn had left a well-fed fortunate family and two brothers. When he came back he found three half-starved specters and a grave next to his home. The Erliwin family is impoverished and Ernulf and Almarica need resting, now everything rests upon the shoulders of young Brythwyn.

Year 20

Finsterforst Population : 115 (125 Newcomers waiting)
Finsterforst Buildings : 20 Huts,1 House, 3 small longhouses
Finsterforst Local Environment : large clearing, densely forested, lush wildlife
Chief: Ernhard Carn ( 20 Years of Service)

50 New Families have arrived in Finsterforst, all in need of houses. Rents and prices for houses are rising dramatically (Worth of Houses has doubled)
Due to the many newcomers frictions are appearing between the people already living in finsterforst and those new. Most demand them to move on and the matter has been put to vote.
Ernhard has seen fit further to hire 20 Weaponthanes which will be payed for by a tax of 1 Silverpiece a year.
Furthermore he needs a longhouse to house the Thanes and also wants a moat and a stockade to be built.

A Trading Caravan has arrived together with the Migrants...

I saw that coming.
:(

Anyway, as for the marriage, which one (if any) does Nathaniel actually love (the most)?
Considering.... Events, I'd value happiness over a nicer dowry any day.

Also, I seriously think we should try to bail out the Earliwins somehow.

And, finally, what is the going rate for hiring farm workers?

Oh, and I Abstain from the vote.

Oh damn O.O Time to get building and such now! But damn I must've impressed the right god somewhere if I had this much good luck happen to me. Also, I'd bail them out if I could hire them as some farmhands and such, but I dunno if that's allowed...

For the Vote, the Stafalints vote to Let the newcomers stay, so long as they behave and pay their taxes.

Offer to family Erliwin

We offer to accept your younger son in our house for 5 years and provide him enough food and carpenter apprentice as a sign of goodwill to help your family. As a small payment for that, we ask for 1 acre of farmland to be transfered to us.

Is hunting skill compatible enough with martial skill to apply for work as a thane?

Uneducated themselves, the Erliwin wish deeply for each of their children to learn a profession. And though he refuses to admit it, Ernulf  is relieved that there will be one less mouth to feed. The offer is accepted, young Cwichelm is apprenticed to the Berns for years 21-25.

Stafalints extends an offer of generosity, and are willing to offer financial support to the Erliwins in the form of food in case of a poor harvest. There is no need to repay us in any way for this, we are doing this out of compassion and generosity for our fellow clanmates. We would also like to also remind both them and the Berns to vote on the clan matter still unresolved as well.

@TopHat: going rate for a farm worker is two silver pieces. And love doesnt matter here, he will eb fine with whomever he takes. And i almost feel ashamed for those rolls, seriously two families dying terrible and two going Bill Gates on the rest...

@a1s: yep it is. The Thanes will be freshly trained anyway so consider this new apprenticeships.
