Finsterforst

Here you are, you, your wife and 46 other poor souls. Escaped from what transpired in the South. Turned your backs on what was there and travelled North into the thick unexplored forests. On your way you met many who did the same. After months of Hardships you finally arrived here, where your new home would be. This clearing with a small river running past will be the beginning of your little Village: Finsterforst.

What this is about and some basic Information

I don't know who of you remember Dynasties of Cairnwood Crossing, anyhow this is a pretty similiar game although at the early Iron Age. You (4 Players) will lead your Family to greatness or demise. In contrary to Cairnwood Crossing i will put the Losing is !!FUN!! level far higher(in other words expect HOTRS levels of "WE ARE DOOMED")

You'll also note some Minor Changes in the Gameplay. Since we are in the Iron Age expect some Tribal Society going on. That means you can raid and carry weapons, there are no dedicated Warriors (at least not yet) and no taxes...etc.

With you there are 40 other NPCs living in the Village. This means at the beginning of Year 1 you have a population of 48 people.

Note that no Chief of the Village has been chosen yet.

Currency: 1 Gold = 10 Silver

Gameplay
You will be making a schedule for 10 years. There are a few actions you can do, and potential for other actions exist. Each person can
Claim fields - 1 year - making decent farmable land in such a forested area takes a serious amount of effort to clear the brush, etc.
Hunting/Fishing/Foraging - 1 year, basically ensures you have food for the year but not very profitable.
Farm - Farm any available fields. Output depends on total field size and number of people farming. You will spend 1 food per adult, .5 per child, and any excess will be sold based on economy.
Have baby - Matriarch only, takes 1 year. Remember the year - having many children is dangerous and taxing on resources. You can have children up to age 35.
Explore - Your character leaves town for 5 years to explore the surrounding lands and find out about the surrounding lands.
Raid - Spend a year Raping, Murdering, Pillaging and Burning any other people living nearby. Remember to bring along some friends. And prepare for angry folks getting back to you and Finsterforst
Learn a trade - Your character leaves town for 5 years to learn a trade as an apprentice. This costs 1 gold. Example: Blacksmithing, pottery, milling, carpentry...(only works of course if you know of any neighbours)
Build a basic house - 4 person-years. Builds something better than a teepee.
Logging - The land is rich with forests, so most timber is sold to traders. This is dangerous work but is a good way to earn coin for unskilled workers.
Other - I will allow reasonable actions and creativity, but they will be more heavily influenced by random numbers than set actions. Any "Official" action will be cataloged in the first two posts of this game.

Other rules :
You may not leave the Village of Finsterforst permanently
Your characters must always have food. If they do not, money will be spent at a current rate of 1 silver/year per person to feed them. This is dependent on the economy, so it is possible for your characters to run out of money/food and default to the "Hunt/Fish/Forage" action.
Children are useless until age 10.
Children must either leave the household at age 30 or become the new patriach/matriarch. If they leave, they will provide money to the current matriach based on overall experience and health. Elders will be assumed to be retired.
If you designate a 20 year old as a new matriarch or patriach, they will be automatically married to someone of the same social class unless you are willing to pay for a better class.

Stupid question, is that four people controlling one family or four people each controlling their own family?
Also, what does Child (1-3) - None Mean?

EDIT - Pre-emptive reservation if this is the latter option (very probable) and this is first-come, first-served.
EDITEDIT- correcting autocorrect.

That you have no children.

I'll get a sheet up soon, but I have to ask, what's the player culture like?

Okay, just needed that to do the names. Also, I doubt the two-married men thing will float socially and culturally. Mind you, the children thing is as simple as raiding someone else for them :P

I... missed it when I first scanned the thread and counted who had signed up/reserved.  I blame my eagerness to get in.

But TopHat's first post here, he said:

EDIT - Pre-emptive reservation if this is the latter option (very probable) and this is first-come, first-served

So I think I'm in his spot  :-\
