Thank you very much for your honesty Imp. Much appreciated.
Though now I feel really bad taking the spot.  :-[

Ya shouldn't Top... you were the first in.  And I assure you, however bad you feel about taking your spot.... I'd have felt worse if I'd tried to keep it.

I do think you're all about to get your heads handed to you though ;p.  Not cause I want you going down, but because you (and 48 others) -just- got here, in a region described as "thick unexplored forests...(a) clearing with a small river running past..."  a clearing with umpteen couples filling it with campsites, an area where creating (and thus even 'finding') "decent farmable land in such a forested area takes a serious amount of effort to clear the brush", i.e. .... a year's work of work...

I'm thinking all you people trying to initially farm, when that means farming "any available fields. Output depends on total field size"... which should be pretty close to 0 methinks, are not going to find it exactly filling.  Am expecting most of you to starve!   :o

Year 10

Stafalint Family

The Stafalints prospered in the alst decade despite 3 lean years. Especially in the Sixth year Nils has to spend a lot of the family fortune to get his family through the Winter. In the Fifth Year the Stafalints get a Heir. The Boy is strong as an ox, even for a five year old. His brother however was born sickly and Astrid is greatly distressed that the poor boy might die of pneumonia

Bern Family

The Bern Family must have attracted a curse, otherwise how does one explain the years of hardship, the stillborn son in the Fourth Year and Failing Crops? Despite all this Ballard and Alanza fought on and in the Ninth Year at Finsterforst Ballard had finished an impressive Small Longhouse made of wood. He had become quite the Carpenter wenting the Despair at his stillborn son on the Forest. and Finally in the last year of the Decade Alanza birthed another son. In all these years the Berns managed to aquire 9 Silver Pieces, despite all hardships.

Feuerberch Family

The Feuerberchs are stricken with even more tragedy, The first five years ran splendidly and Christina even aquired a Knack for Farming, but then in the sixth year their First Daughter was stillborn.
After that everything went downhill, Christina Became Depressed and the crops wouldn't grow anymore, if not for the Skill of Christina the Feuerberchs would have starved to Death. Her second Daughter in the Ninth year was stillborn too, an effect of their hardships.
Finally in the last year with the money running low and the crops failing again, both Christina and Nathaniel resort to foraging and hunting, barely keeping themselves on their feet...

Spoiler:  Feuerberch Family (click to show/hide)

Erliwin Family

The Erliwins had a tough start, the first two years were lean ones with bad Harvests, Ernulf had to go Foraging with actually big success he managed to bring down several deers feeding the family and selling off what he didnt need.
After that it slowly went upwards with the Erliwins and in the Seventh Year after a particularly good Harvest their First Boy was born. HE is a Bright and Strong little bugger, enough food being prolly the reason.
The Tenth year however was the one with the best harvest, bringing in a profit of 10 Silver Pieces alone.

Ghazkull, you forgot to update the 2 final families' ages.

Everyone else, I think we need to send someone out to scout the neighboring lands. Personally I don't much want to go, but if each household (of which about 25-35 exist in the village) contributes a silver piece, we could outfit several expeditions, and make sure their families don't starve.

That's a pretty good idea. I'd volunteer for it next update if someone organizes it.

Because that thing seems to hate me.
Also, I have an idea for a new type of action:
Food preservation.
The villager spends the year smoking and otherwise preserving spare food.
Instead of being sold at the market, surplus food is instead 'kept', to be consumed later in a time of need.
What do you think?

So, Bern and Feurbach, do you think exploring is a good idea? I would love for you to back me up when I bring the plan to chief Carn (preferably before year 10 starts to resolve).
