Warmongering for dummies
« on: August 07, 2013, 12:27:03 pm »

I can not get the stupid Humans and elves to fight me, I embarked to a wonderful location, except that there were no goblin civilizations, so in the pursuit of fun I have been destroying Human and Elven Caravans in an attempt to start a war, Armok be praised. Yet I have destroyed over 10 caravans for elves and Humans respectively and yet no war. Any advice, I have been clear cutting the forest in an attempt to piss the elves off further.

Elves are pretty hard to piss off, unless you've enabled their diplomat through either hack or pre-genning raw mod. I think there're a way to hack the diplomat for elves in but I don't know the utility. Humans should come with diplomat once you're big enough, off the guy a few times.

Trees ... just cut them down. All of them. And try to sell leather and wood items to the elves.

Cutting down trees doesn't work anymore now that the elven diplomat isn't there. Back in 40d it was hilariously easy to piss off elves. I'm interested in this topic too since not once have I managed to start war with the elves in .34.x. I always seize their caravans or just plain kill them (easy xp for my military) but nothing works.

Fucking elves.

Yeah, I used to kill the elves all the time until I realized they were the worlds garbage men.  Only time I've been sieged by them is embarking with them at war.

They never bring anything that good so unless you have a Dwarven Atom Smasher or magma incinerator there's no point killing the caravan.
Of course if you do, then kill them and take anything good and then destroy it all.

i once got a breeding pair of giant eagles out of elves, so they are good for exotics.

elves also by far give the most wood, which depending on the location, can be absurdly important.

other than that, they're pretty much worthless.

The elves have some good stuff.
Exotic animals, animal men slaves (I got a tiger man once. He was cool), and outdoor seeds for more veriety of BOOZE!
Constanty killing them brings more useless cloth!
Fuck it! Burn the elves!

The elves won't bring you things if you have a lot already, like logs or cloth. Initially, though, they are a good source of cloth, like humans are with leather. Don't forget to hoard cloth for moods! And, you need it for clothes!

Better than that, actually. Unless something has changed since I last did trading things, they'll bring you better stuff. For some strange reason, the elves value cloth more than the exotic animals, so if you piss them off, they'll bring more good stuff and less cloth.

I have a related dilemma... I have never started off at war with another civilization, even though whenever I gen a world Legends Mode shows that there were wars during worldgen. Is there some trick involved, or is it just my luck?

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!

Update:The Elves and Humans now have to walk literally over heaps of their comrades corpse's just to reach the trade depot, I have taken to pissing them off before murdering them, such as giving the elves a nice juicy Maple log then killing all of them when they decide to leave in a huff and simply seizing the Human's goods until they get grumpy and decide to leave as well. I will tell yall how it goes.
