Turn constructed walls into natural walls
« on: August 07, 2013, 10:34:53 am »

Is there any mod to turn constructed walls/stairs/floors/etc into natural ones? I've been searching the forum for hours and found nothing of the sort, but I wouldn't imagine it being too hard. Does anyone plan to take this on in the future, if ever?

The "tiletypes" command in DFHack.

What would that do to the block that is at the core of the wall, though? Does it vanish forever, come out when you mine it out again or fall into object table limbo?

Thanks for the reply, I've tried it and it works, at least on floors to walls.

I've stopped thinking of dwarven logic in terms of "why does it do that?" and "why doesn't it break the Universe? I don't even-". I fear my head will explode, so I take it as is. If you're really interested in the answer, I'll try to do some !!SCIENCE!! sooner or later.

Yeah, if you're doing a normal game, I'd say use pumps/carts/buckets to transport magma into pre-built casts (which, amazingly, can be made out of wood, tallow, or ice) and then drop buckets of water on it to make nice all-natural obsidian walls.

If you're doing something else, such as perhaps repairing a single tile that needs to be seemlessly similar to the surrounding stone, then yeah, tiletypes is your best bet. It's always possible to use the more fun way, though.
