Also a question that I guess should be asked at sometime. How does combat. Like. Actually work?

I'll give a proper combat explanation after the peace phase, when the war phase begins.

Fake Edit: Tar guessed the basics, but each time a squad successfully defends, it loses 7 defense due to fatigue. Squads fight one at a time. Most powerful squads on each side fight first. Attackers get first roll when fighting out in the open over a civilian squad. Defenders get first roll when fighting over a town.

Weird, are we able to raid for specialists?

Huh. I thought I answered that already, but I guess I forgot to hit reply or something...

Short answer is no. Any unwilling specialist would be a slave. Unless you have a way of dealing with slaves, or for some reason like slave rebellions on your turf, you likely want to avoid getting slaves. (Until you try and fail to attack the temple, or somebody else takes the temple and puts an expensive monopoly on its services, you can sacrifice slaves to get Maidens for the cost of one non-slave expert)

You get some slaves after any military victory. No specific raid required. If the purposes is to deprive another faction of its experts, that would be a job for a spy once the proper research is conducted.

Alright then. I take it that if a town has no garrison, it is defenseless then?

I haven't decided yet. I'm torn between giving it defense equivalent to a warrior squad, or nothing at all. I'll make that call with the official combat explanation after the peace phase.

Kingdom Name: Camathi Republic
Leader Name: Arch-Scholar Demmemin ma Gaithan
Race: Elf

Kingdom History: The Camathi Republic has long been more advanced than the other kingdoms, even before it's founding. This is because elves, having such long lifespans, can research a project for far longer, and thus far more intricately, than those of other races. The tribes that make it up had been allies for many years before it's creation, and during the war with the Northeast dragon, contributed a great many archers to the war, as well as hunters, spies, and researchers to provide food and give insight into the dragon's plan and weaknesses. Now they have risen out of their old trappings, and seek to make their position stronger, and possibly make their way to the gnomes in the west...

Just put your data on the sheet...

Your second town has an illegal configuration. Elves cannot go below 50% Scholar chance in any of their towns. You need to fix that.

3 Notes

1. Rolepggeek is free to join. I'll update his sheet as soon as I post this.

2. Cheesecake dosn't have the experts required to make that Smithy he ordered...

3. I need BFEL to agree to the trade with Cryptfiend on the game thread before I finalize it.

Something I have to note and which might be on purpose; defending is really easy right now. Which sort-of makes sense, but the advantage a defender has is that he chooses where to defend. He can usually pick the place, and where it becomes easier to defend is in the fortifications, not just out in the open field. In the open, the attacker has the advantage, as the attacker will have momentum on his side, and gets to choose the time at which he attacks.

So, if you want defending to be easier, I'd just make building fortifications an option. A bunch of lesser improvements for towns, and such. Some that can only be built when there's already a type of improvement,(warehouse if you have silo, training facilities for barracks, etc.), some that can always be built, that may or may not take up space, give a small bonus, and are relatively expensive. For some, at least; building a palisade, for example, might cost 2 craftsmen and a fighter, but give +20 to defense in that town. Some might give bonuses only to specific types of units(research means that more types will inevitably appear, probably with special qualities, too, like archers have.)

Except the attacker has the initiative. They can eliminate a defending unit without being exposed to a counterattack. And there are units that gain defense when stationed in a town, but no-one has those yet.

Unless the defenders are in a town. But are they fortified towns? After only three years of being a fledgling kingdom? I think not. And in the open, the defender still has a serious advantage.

Most of these towns are much older than the Kingdoms. Right now I'm leaning towards giving them basic defenses equal to the effectiveness of a warrior squad. I'll make the final call after the peace phase.

I'm planning for combat engineers to be a tier 2 research project. Once you have those you can build fortifications and make a defense out in the open the mechanical equivalent of defending a town.

Yeah; Defending has a serious advantage in this game. Almost too much of one, but an attacker gets to choose what to attack as well, I suppose.

To be fair, it's not THAT large. Combat is really just a few d100s being rolled for attacks and nothing else.

If you say so. Warriors still have a 30 point advantage when defending against even Phalanxes, though. Archers defending in a town against warriors anything?

Massacre.
