What's happening in your adventure.
« on: August 06, 2013, 02:58:08 pm »

I open this topic for the ones who play adventurer mode and want to share stories about their adventures. Did you die? Of course you did. Was it Xen, Pegasi, Drakes, Raptors or unusually frequent evil satyrs? How faster than you were they? Let the storytelling begin.

I'll start: as a Kobold "Ninja" I get my dagger stuck in a xen infector's body I was sneaking upon. Not wanting to take out the blade, I try to wrestle him to death, and curiosly I see I can grab said dagger with my free hand as any other body part. The result is having one dagger in both my hands, duplicated. So, not wanting to wield a two-handed weapon akimbo, I get rid of one like any DF player would, by throwing it at the nearest damageable thing.

I found that in MW the peasants don't have clothes or carving knives.  :'(

They need carving knives? But yes, I know of the problem, I want to add at least a shirt/pants back for this.

With that adventurer I eventually decided to venture underground and got smashed by a Deep One.
Generated a new world, I start in the only Kobold city left, standing next to a cathedral-whatever-like ruined building with a ramp leading to the first underground level. I enter it, and find a pool occupying its center with four doors on the sides, leading to narrow catacomb-like passageways filled with skeletal kobolds (they bothered replacing the clay from the layer with stone blocks walls and floors, but not placing coffins for them? There were only THREE coffins, complete with memorial slabs), those kobolds were all either peasants or named ones. Going further, I find open rooms containg clothes, armors and weapons. In the meanwhile I heard military Kobolds coughing blood. So I think: "Perphaps there is an invasion going on and there are Kobolds still fighting underground! I must help them! >:(". Equipped with looted armor pieces and a mithril pointy stick and aura, I finally find the Kobolds soldiers. And they just kill me. ???
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT: I managed to separate three kobolds from the group and kill them individually (throwing a knife makes miracles). Afterwards I get spotted by a bigger group and have to retrocede, the rape train composed of Bola-thrower, a Slinger and a bombarder. Arrived at a narrow passage, I throw a knife at the Bola-Thrower, he promptly dodges it and it lands on the bombarder behind painfully wounding him. Now, trying to fight back, I get dragged past the stunned bombardier and face-to-face with Bola-Thrower. I wound the bola-thrower and then kill the bombardier from behind by bashing my aura on his head (he didn't have the time to turn on me). I keep fighting off the bola thrower (eventually I make his groin sail off with the throwing knife) when the slinger starts lashing me with her ironbone sling (that thing must have been sharp), easily hurting me. Worried by the injuries, I fall back into another cathedral-like building with a pool in the center, being chased by the sling-lasher by the edge of the pool. When she cuts open my shield-hand, I panickly jump into the pool taking a fall of 2 Z levels. This one building wasn't ruins, and in fact there a was whatever-noble/priest some tiles after the one I jumped in the pool from and a stray drowspider. I was worrying about that whatever-noble (and most of all, about me), but then this happens.

My current situation.

I made it with a cut open hand and a couple of bruises. Anyway, what kind of shield is an aura?

Adventure mode displayes dark-grey TILE:0 as filling material? The grey books on the screenshot... thats the fog of war?

Yes. I'm using the Matrix tileset and the color is Default+, if that helps. Also, do you see that spider web with blood? It's actually a Sard Door.
Anyway, what is "Holy Castle"? A Kobold Noble? Also: as a earth-sign Kobold, I have avalaible the ability "Become more combat hardened". I tried it but it didn't have any visible effect. What is it supposed to do?

Now, having got a sensory nerve damaged whilst fighting a goblin, I decide to heal myself by spiritwalking. I go out in the wilds and kill a pair of stranglers, knap an axe to gather wood, build a tannery, tan their leather and bring what I need back to town. Then I knap an axe and gather wood again to make a carpenter's shop and a chair, and I finally build the Sweat Lodge. Here is the result:

An assortment of random signs, and when I try to use it it shows me no reactions.

I think AdvFort only works on workshops, not furnaces. Would be nice if someone could confirm this.

The farmer's workshop is missing reactions too.

Made an account just now to help with the AdvFort discussion.

As far as I've seen, AdvFort is pretty picky in what it does and doesn't acknowledge as a proper reaction or labor. In my experience with Masterwork v.3c, masons workshops don't identify nearby boulders as suitable crafting materials for some reason; wood-related crafting seems to work pretty solidly barring the occasional glitch where nearby logs aren't recognized for use, such as when constructing walls and floors.

There's also a pretty !fun! bug that, overnight after sleeping, caused all the floors and walls of my Orc adventurers cabin to transform into logs and collapse on top of him, shattering some pretty important bones.

What kind of boulders were they? The unusable ones you find scattered all across the surface, or the mined-out ones?
Also, that happened because player made buildings automatically deconstruct if you leave the area/go to sleep.
Anyway, do you know any DFHack command to heal my Kobold?

Sorry, I should clarify: The mined-out boulders, at least in my previous experience, refuse to be used in masonry reactions.
And buildings de-construct automatically? That's stinky. Will they still deconstruct if I have claimed the site I built them in?

There is a command to heal injured creatures via dfhack. The command is in one of the manuals located the folder you extracted Masterwork to. I'm attempting a full re-install to fix a crash I'm having, so I don't have the relevant files to look it up for you right now. If you're still having trouble finding it after I've re-installed I'll add an edit with the command.

Anyway, I'm not 100% certain the command will work in adventure mode, but it's worth a shot.

Edit The commant is "fullheal" while looking at a unit. Whether that's looking with [K] or [V] in Fortress mode of [L] in Adventure Mode, I'm not sure.

Boh, never tried to claim.
I've found the comand, but now I've switched to Fortress mode so I can't tell if it'll work. Thanks anyway, I'll see later.
