I'd imagine that most of the evil gods would be adamantly against destroying the world, which is kinda funny.

I like to imagine the vote is to destroy the world in 999, and it happens in 1000, and that's the end of the comic.
Tarquin would be so mad.

While this would be hilarious, it would probably make more narrative sense for #1000 to reveal the final result of the vote (my money's on "yes").

Durkula might actually sort of be on the "good" side right now, since I'm not sure Hel wants the world gone. Her having an unexpected voting delegate could turn the tide one way or another.

I predict Durkon's formerly-neutral vampire thralls are similarly adopted by evil gods, and they enter at the last moment to swing the vote back to inaction.

Heimdall has a point, though it's an easier decision due to DND cosmology and souls.  The snarl is an existential threat with unknown capabilities. 

Roy, of course, has the obvious solution which is 100x better than Heimdall's.  Since there's no guarantee that the trap will work a second time.

(Heimdall isn't in Firefox autocorrect, it suggests Waldheim.  Wtf?)

Hel is on the side of the world not ending, and saw the opportunity to have a minion of her own working to ending this crisis, not having faith the good guys are capable of managing it without some more direct intervention, and not thinking that the snarl could be re-contained in the same way again even if the others did destroy the world.  The snarl is clearly a threat to even gods.  She doesn't want it getting out anymore than the PCs do, and if the party does succeed, maybe she can get a vast majority of the credit among the other gods.

Durkula is there to help the party stop the snarl.  Hel is of the opinion that Durkula is stronger than Durkon.  The ruse is being kept because even if being controlled by a being on their side Durkon is still enslaved by an outside force, something I don't think anyone on the team would be ok with.

Durkon is not told of this because Hel still wants a high level vampire cleric minion after this is all over, and has no intention of freeing him, ever.  Still pretty evil.

As for what's happening with Belkar, I'm thinking Durkula is very strongly of the opinion that he brings nothing to the team that can't already be managed by Haley, and as an added bonus Belkar is actively trying to undermine his master's plan.  So he's gotta be offed.

Of course I don't really read the comic religiously and keep an eye on every little detail, I usually catch up in bursts, so I'm probably very very wrong.  But I can't think of much reasoning why Durkula would still be hanging around them if Hel did not have some vested interest in their success.

against destroying the world. Why? She stands to gain the least from the death of everyone. Even though she is a goddess of death, she has no followers, save for one vampire - maybe a few more in a few days. The unmaking of the world will kill everyone and, as Heimdall said, their souls will follow the normal rules and end up on their respective alignment planes afterwards - Hel will receive none of this. She is at least trying to gain a few followers, preferably at the expense of the other gods in her pantheon, should everything come apart. And, with no more life, there'd be no more death, so she'd be out of a job anyway.

I'm wondering if they invited the Dark One to this. Probably not, since Redcloak's not here.

Why would the Dark One be there? He's not accepted by any of the other gods, which is the reason why Redcloak is doing what he's doing.
