Okay, so what I was thinking is that we write short stories, sort of like old tales and legends like Norse and Greek Myths. Also old children's tales like the ones written by the Brother's Grimm. Then they all slowly build up. Anyone interested?

You can write anything; a long epic like the Odyssey or short poems or child rhymes. You can also write about stuff in Bay 12, like something heroic (or dumb) that a dwarf did in your fortress, or the epic battle your adventurer had with a megabeast. Maybe something that happened in an RtD you were in. Or anything.

Old Ragnov the Hero,
Locks so fiery and red!
And he raises his blade,
Filling mortals with dread.

Slashing and stabbing,
Crushing men with foot,
Howling so maddening!
Cutting the life thread.

One day, his match met,
His brow covered in sweat,
Lunging with sword,
Bones broke blood shed!

The beast, three headed.
Body of lion, wing of dragon,
Face of Man, tail of scorpion,
Lying dead!

The gods covened, and gazed upon the world. They saw that the world was filled with the unjust souls who sought to use the good for selfish purposes. So, they forged a new god from the Holy Iron, a diety of  magic and spirit. He granted unto the mortals that were just the power of Magic, who could use great power with but a word. The evil gave way to the good in the world, and the mages ruled supreme as total leaders, ruling both the spiritual and day-to-day life of the people.
One man, however, decided to extract all the possible power out of magic, and keep it for himself. He began to work with magic, twisting it and melding it, changing both the fabric of the world and the nature of the magic god. The new, twisted magic left the man drained and twisted, with his skin stretched tight across his bones and his eyes soulless globes. The power, however, could breathe unlife into anything, and raise it as a corpse warrior. This is how Magic,  Necromancy, and Liches were created.

Unnamed attempt

T’was a dark and icy winter,
When the winds came marching in.
In the darkness things were stirring,
And the fires were hid ‘hind kin.

One night the hearth grew dimmer still,
And tides rose on higher shores.
From the waves trod legions sleepless,
Shades of men who life abhor.

They took the weak and young and old,
Sent them back to break the strong.
The embers faded into ash,
The warriors sang saddest songs.

Next morn I stood ‘fore them again,
Skin flat and dead as cold ice.
My father’s blade pierced mine own heart,
And still I struck him back thrice.

We returned back deep together,
United in hate of heat.
Our fires will burn no longer,
Far below the tossing sea.

So beware of the ocean deep,
Where even light fears to tread.
For in the darkness lies there,
The ever present hungry dead.
