This Human Lasher has a Silver Whip...
« on: August 05, 2013, 07:37:28 pm »

I don't like jumping the caravan because I don't like playing dump fortress... but... this human lasher has a silver whip.  Its been over 10 years and I haven't found a silver whip yet.

Decisions...

5 finger discount.

Is he a merchant guard? If so, "v" him, "I" him, then unforbid his whip, and reclaim it.

Your dwarves will relieve him of the heavy oppressive burdent it represents, and calmly place it into the weapons stockpile.

The guard will just look around confusedly.

If that doesn't work, you can mass reclaim rectangle over the top of him. Your dwarves will strip him completely naked.

He won't mind.

Humans must have stolen the knowledge of whip making from dwarves, kill them and reclaim your heritage.

Dwarven bumrush + human with epic lightsaber == not good medicine.

Just five-finger the whip, and give the merchants a little extra to cover the costs this year. They won't even bat an eye at it.

The merchants have embarked on their journey aka they will leave after a month of packing.

I shouldn't have traded first. All of my haulers are hauling foodstuffs.  If they head out, its the military solution.

I fear no humans. I have voidhammers and legendary spearmen, all in full candy suits.

still try unforbidding it and flagging it for dumping. dumping is a fairly high priority job

Do not abuse the power of the discount, grasshopper.

For the overseer who does so will receive smaller caravans!

Like nature, so too must the economy be in balance.

/fake kung-fu master advice

Seriously though. It can be quite difficult to resist 5 fingering the whole caravan. (You *can* do that!) You should resist this temptation. Only 5 finger when strictly warranted. (This is such a rare occurance that I feel it was warranted, but you should always offset any 5 fingering with a big trade balance, or else the merchants won't come with as much stuff in he future.)

For those moments where it is "make or break", it is really useful, but don't abuse it. It breaks the game, and ruins the fun.

I usually deconstruct the depot under the first dwarven caravan. After that, if I want it, I can afford it.

I did not know about merchant stripping.  Learn something new about DF everyday.  But this has to be the way to do it...

Humans must have stolen the knowledge of whip making from dwarves, kill them and reclaim your heritage.

I decided I was tired of the human caravan, so I sniped some of their guards without killing their wagons. Some humans showed up in the next ambush. I don't know if that means they are hostile or not.

'Some humans' does that mean you got a goblin ambushes with human leader? Those's just babysnatched humans that got thrown in to lead some goblins.
